Working Woman Heels with Pizazz

January 24, 2010 Comments (2)

We have covered heels for the working woman before: they are a huge part of our lives, especially if we’re deep in the 9-5 routine! We spend so much of our time in heels, and yet a lot of us don’t feel a “spark” when we slip on our work shoes. Let’s change that with a few subtle selections to have fun with our wardrobes… after all, we owe it to ourselves to relieve some of the stress of the daily grind.

Scalloped-Edge Heels: Some high heels for work need to be monochrome in tone, without additions like bows, appliqués, and topstitching. If you work in a corporate environment and really need to keep your shoes subtle, try to hunt down a pair with leather-on-leather additions like scallop-edged leather heel cups and toe caps. For an extra, subtle touch, heel cups and toe caps can be found perforated with dots or other cutouts, similar to a men’s brogue.

Colored Soles or Heels: Fine, your shoes need to be plain– we get it! We’ve been there, too, but guess what? We get a thrill from cheating just a little. Look for shoes with an exciting sole color, like a deep turquoise, or an unusual-shaped rubber grip along the sole. If you can try something a little more daring at work, find heels that have a different colored heel, even if it’s in the ever-popular stacked wood.

Ankle-Strapped Heels: Plain pumps are nicely and easily dressed up with an ankle strap, and those shoes are simple to find when you shop for Mary Jane inspiration. Select a pointier toe for a more ladylike look on your Mary Jane-inspired heels, and try to get a pair with an interesting buckle closure instead of the plain metal kind– you can find pairs with small, clear rhinestones on the buckle. The best news of all is that these heels are also super supportive, and thus great for work.

Fold-Down Booties: Are you traveling for work? Are you going somewhere cold? Take a pair of black leather booties on your travels to descend from the plane in style. Fold-down ones are a great choice, because they can also work underneath all your black work trousers without anyone being the wiser. Why select boring skinny-heel boots when you can wear something you can take out to the club later?

Do you try to find exciting work shoes, or do you like to keep it simple?

  1. I know for me i find exciting work shoes but end up paying for it by the end of the day. Im a 26 year old Pre-School teacher who loves SHOES and fashon. Im the only one my age in the whole school and the only one who dress up, i mean really dress up for work. I have been wearing high heels since i could walk. I try to do a thick heel and round toe when ever i can but my feet are takeing a beating. I now take my gym shoes and slip them on after the parents leave. This has caused me to stop wearing the shoes that i love. Im scared that if i keep wearing my beloved hills ill end up like grandma going to see the shoe dr. Im into all styles and colors you name it. Since i work with kids i like to keep it fun. Anything to keep the attention of a 4yr old is a must LOL. Shoes tell someones personality and mine is fun, exciting and willing to try anything once( meaning the shoes that is LOL)
