The Worst Shoes to Wear to Work

March 18, 2010 Comments (0)

Are you an office-bound worker? Whether you’re an executive assistant or someone who needs an executive assistant, there are some shoes that simply don’t fly in a professional space. For warning and just for fun, let’s take a look at some of the least successful shoes we can wear in the office– and don’t forget to add your own pet peeves in the comments.

Clunky Boots

You know those boots that you have that feature a subtle platform sole? You’ve always loved them, but they are a bit heavy. Those boots in question, in the wrong office, can almost take paintings off the walls. Test your boots on a hardwood floor, and consider resoling your shoes if they sound too loud. Is it time to retire those big boots?

Skinny Stilettos

Wobbly shoes aren’t fun to look at, and they aren’t fun to wear, either. You’ll look far more professional if you choose a pair of shoes that allow you to stride comfortably and look confident, so try to select the right pair for your personal equilibrium. One smart solution to cut down on wiggly heels is to find a pair of shoes with hidden platforms inside, which helps reduce the impact of the size of your heels.

Clogs

There’s not much to say about clogs, except for the fact that not only are they quite unprofessional, they are unflattering and probably one of the most universally disliked shoes out there. If you love clogs and it’s hard for you to ditch them, consider slip-on mules to wear during special occasions, and during the day, select a round-toe sling-back with a comfortable cone heel.

“Wedding” Sandals

Do you know those satin sandals with a lot of tiny strap details? You’ve probably worn them when you were named bridesmaid or maid of honor at weddings, and they never blend in well with your work trousers or skirts. Toss those satin heels and instead wear dress heels with a single wide strap across the front of the foot.

Have you ever loved a pair of shoes that weren’t good for work, but you wanted to wear them anyway?
