Mixing textures for summer is a great way to rev up your wardrobe. It’s tricky to do, but it’s also great for those who love solid pieces. The mix of textures adds dimension without having to play with bold colors or prints, keeping you in your fashion comfort zone while looking trendy.
Day Looks
For day, mix suede shoes with frothy fabrics. Think chiffon, silk and poly-blend fabrics that have the same airiness of these materials. When we think of suede, we tend to think of heavy fabrics that work in the winter, so when wearing suede in the summer, go in the opposite direction. Ruffles, sheer fabrics, and washed silk are favorites for tank tops, and you can mix them with denim and your suede shoes during the warm weather months. You can also wear these same feminine tops with twill shorts or cargo pants this summer.
Nights Out
For evening, think of the sultry fabrics normally associated with night. Leather (faux or real), lace, and silk contrast suede shoes in a stylish way. When mixing fabrics at night, keep the shapes simple. Try a stretch sheath dress with leather panels or a lace tank top with skinny leather pants in the cool of the evening. It’s this juxtaposition of mixing materials, while maintaining classic shapes that will wow a crowd.
The Shoe to Choose
For this trend, we love the Yaneli wedges from Nina. These wedges are easy to wear because the fashion-forward silhouette makes any outfit on trend. The suede fabric in a light cream color also makes the shoes on point for warm weather outings. Be sure to treat light suede shoes with a leather protector before taking them out on the town.

December is almost here, lovelies! We’re trying to bundle up since things are bound to get icier, and that means we want to keep our feet from being chilly. How about these suggestions to get the gears turning?
Sweater-Lined Boots: These boots are so warm and comfortable, and they can be lined in wool, cashmere knit, or a lightweight cotton sweater-type sock. Sweater-lined boots are lovely when the interior is bright enough to lend a shock of color to even the most basic of outfits. Think black leggings are too plain? Wear a pair of boots with a turquoise lining or a plaid interior and a fold-down cuff, and you’ll be jolly all December.
Sheepskin Boots with Foldover Cuffs: Foldover boots lend a unique silhouette to tighter winter clothes, and they are just perfect for this time of year when paired with thick socks in a cool color. If sheepskin isn’t for you, then you can wear a pair of boots that flaunt faux sheepskin instead. Get a pair of boots with buckles along the uppers, too!

Suede ankle boots are a great staple for fall and winter. They add that urban spin to any outfit you try them with. Many are equipped with platform soles and stacked heels, making them easy to get around in during the cold weather days. Suede is a great way to add texture to your look, but remember to protect your suede booties with a leather protector before taking them out into wet weather.
Taupe is one of the hottest colors for fall and winter. They can lighten up an all-black outfit and also work with fair isle sweaters and dark denim. The Mariell booties from Steve Madden are the perfect taupe ankle boots for the cool days ahead. Try the Mariell with thick socks in a contrasting hue worn with leggings or skinny jeans tucked in. The Mariell ankle boots are definitely for casual events due to the crepe sole and heel. This makes them ideal for damp weather, proving it’s possible for fashion and function to marry in one fabulous pair of shoes. Read more »
Colored shoes have become popular. Women have finally started to realize that a closet full of black and brown options simply doesn’t cut it. The modern woman is moving beyond red and now delves into areas that are purple, green and blue. There’s nothing wrong with colored shoes, but sometimes we forget how to wear them. Instead of letting them be the pop of color with an all-black look, opt for these fresh color combinations for a new twist.
Purple, Olive and Gray: All of these colors are popular for fall 2010, and it’s just a coincidence that they look fabulous when worn together. If you have purple shoes that pop like crazy in the summer, tone them down with subtle shades like olive and gray for fall.
Blue, Mustard and Gray: Again, all trendy hues for fall. These colors look brilliant together and create a playful palette that will work seamlessly for weekend outfits. For blue shoes, you don’t have to own anything specific in mustard. Try a basic gray T topped with a mustard scarf to create the look.
Suede will be packing the online shops next season… are you game? I know that it can be tricky picking out things to match with suede, but these five ideas could get you thinking—and pulling unexpected stuff out of that closet. Go ahead, start matching stuff with your top suede looks.
Rayon + Stretch Dresses
We know you’re thinking “rayon?”, but this fabric washes easily, dries easily, and when blended with Lycra and natural fibers, it looks gorgeous against curves. The contrast of soft suede and the stretchier, more athletic look of rayon is great for afternoon and early evening events out on the town.
Rolled-Leg Shorts
Suede shoes plus rolled-up shorts is a casual combination that can get you through the summer with ease. Pop on a pair in white or in light beige, if you dare, which look perfect with the peep-toe ankle boots of summer and early fall. If you want to tone things down, try roll-leg black shorts that hit at the knee, plus your suede footwear of choice.
Smooth, High-Waisted Denim
Now’s the time to buy sandals! We are grabbing a ton of deals this week, all thanks to pre-fall sales and new styles being added to the inventory. If you want to grab yourself some sandals, then it’s time to look for these particular designs online.
*Fuzzy Sandals: “Fuzzy” sandals can describe a lot of different kinds of shoes, but one of our favorites has to be in soft suede with an extremely delicate hand. Shoes made from quality suede will have a high nap and won’t react nicely to water drops. With care and attention, these sandals will sail through next season as well. Keep an eye out for forest green, charcoal grey, and peach!
*Braided Touches: If you want a pair of sandals that look a little rough-and-tough for vacationing, get a pair with braided cord around the feet, either as a toe thong or as an additional touch solely for fashionable purposes. Dark brown is a smart color to wear when you are vacationing, because it doesn’t reveal grit and grime. You can also find a pair with ankle straps if you need something that feels more secure.
*Layered Sandals: Layered sandals can look funky or elegant, depending on what style you find. Simple ones will have an additional strap layered right over the primary strap or upper, while others will have “scales” in different soft colors of leather cascading from the main strap. You can also find sandals that combine fabric and leather for a multi-textured look.
