{ a blog all about the love of shoes }
Let’s face it. No matter what a retailer or a starlette or anybody else says, there really is no such thing as a comfortable stiletto shoe. (If they truly did exist, women would wear them when they exercise.) There are, however, a few ways that you can increase the likelihood that you’ll be able to wear your sky-high heels all evening long.
Wear ‘Em
You’ve got to break your heels in before you show them off on the big night. In the days leading up the event simply wear your new shoes around the house for about 15-20 minutes at a time. This will give you a chance to discover any “sore spots” (places where the straps or the upper rubs against your toes or your heels) and you’ll have plenty of time to purchase any necessary accessories like foot pedals or insoles.
Stretch ‘Em
If your new heels are just too tight to bear, you can have them stretched professionally or purchase a shoe stretcher that will literally give you a bit more wiggle room. Your toes will thank you in the end!

There’s nothing like investing in shoes you can wear year round. Whether you go for a pricey pair of shoes that you’ll wear only occasionally, or an affordable pair that you’ll wear more often, if you can wear them year round, consider your money well spent. Here are our top picks for shoes that will last you from season to season, and beyond…
Black Pumps
You can wear black pumps all year long and for almost any occasion. With the right accessories, black pumps can even be worn to formal occasions. Typically, black pumps were only good for the office, job interviews, funerals, and any occasion where you needed a smart look. But these days, since there are such a wide variety of black pumps on the market, you can easily find a pair that can take you from spring to fall and day to evening. We like the Pigalle Pump from Christian Louboutin. They come in at a pricey $600, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself.
Bold Flats
Bold flats add a little something extra to any outfit. You can choose an animal print, a jewel tone or a primary color. The point is to have a pair of flats that take a solid outfit from drab to fab. They look stylish when thrown on with a simple top and jeans on the weekend and add a fabulous element to a comfy travel outfit, like a jersey dress and cardigan, when traveling.
Black Flats
You need black flats in your shoe wardrobe, too. Black flats are the epitome of simple chic and sometimes that’s all you need to give your outfit a polished finish. Matching your bag and shoes can be outdated, but a black bag with black flats will always round out an outfit. Try hot styles like the Ferrell Knot from Nine West or the Glamor style from CL by Laundry.
Evening Stilettos
These are shoes that say you’re ready to party! You choose what works for your wardrobe, but a bright color is often the way to go. Cobalt, red or hot pink work with that LBD, but also suits a blouse and skinny jeans for going out with the girls. The stilettos should be high enough that they make you walk with a little swagger and add that oomph to an evening look. Check out the Osten 4 ½-inch stiletto from Guess or splurge on the Falcon from Jimmy Choo.

We all have friends who wear outrageous shoes, ones that catch our attention in a negative way and remind us to never, ever step out in that style if we can help it. You’ll find too-high heels in the office, flat-out unattractive shoes that should be sealed in a closet, and awkward sandals in this group. Let’s play the Classy or Trashy shoe game and see what you’ve learned about footwear mistakes.
Classy or Trashy? The Stiletto
The verdict: Classy with restrictions. Consider color and upper when it comes to your stilettos, and you’ll be alright. Calfskin is buttery and looks stunning with anything; cream leather with a peep toe is great for summertime. Steer clear of red patent leather and pleather versions. And no matter what style of stiletto you’ve got, please, please, please don’t wear them to the office!
Classy or Trashy? Satin Uppers
The verdict: Classy with restrictions. When you’re going to pick out a pair of satin uppers, you should aim for a sparing version in low-luster satin. Ones with bows and embellishments are great when pared down, and staying aware of proper proportions will help you flatter your feet.
Classy or Trashy? Open-Toe Flats
The verdict: Classy! With a nice pedicure and a cute skirt, these shoes are a good trade if you can’t wear strappy sandals at work. Open-toe flats are comfortable in a fabric upper, sophisticated in leather, and they provide great ventilation in the summer.
Classy or Trashy? Thick-Strap Sandals
The Verdict: Classy when casual. Sandals with thick straps are great for low-key wear and work perfectly with the wide-leg jeans trend of the season. While thick straps aren’t good for dressing up, they look more than perfect with a wrap skirt or short shorts. Look for ones with a trim heel to cut down on bulkiness.
The next time you shop for shoes, take a moment before you whip out your credit card and ask yourself, “Are these classy or trashy?” You’ll cut down on misguided purchases extremely quickly with this technique.

We gave you a teaser guide to walking in high heels, and now we are stepping things up with more suggestions and advice to walking in these shoes. They’re not for everyone, but they admittedly make the outfit more times than we expect. If you are craving high heels, and you’re not quite sure how you’re going to pull off the higher-than-high picks, we have some suggestions to get you on your way.
Tip 1: Don’t stomp. When you start practicing, you’re likely to get into the habit of striding purposefully and confidently, and that can mean that you end up making a lot of noise in the process. If hard, loud steps are your problem, considering padding the footbed with gel inserts and then looking for heels with rubber on the bottom.
Tip 2: Fit is extremely important. If the shoe is off by a half-size or so, then you might find that your foot slides and your ankle wobbles even more than usual. Fight it with a perfectly-engineered heel that also fits well. Buy the first pair of heels in person so you know what to expect, and then you can get yours online since you know the brand and number you need to wear.
They say sex sells, and while a shoe line with the name Nude Footwear certainly grabs attention, one look at the products on offer, and you’ll see that these shoes sell themselves!
With shocking ad campaigns – a Barbie doll posed suggestively in a bold red pump or an old man dressed to the nines in a Breakfast at Tiffany’s-inspired get-up, this line is bold and fashion forward, but still retains a certain style sensibility.
Perhaps you’re not the tallest one in the bunch; perhaps you just think they make your legs look longer, leaner, better; or perhaps you simply like standing head and shoulders over the competition. Whatever your reason, you just love to rock a sky-high heel – and these days, it’s never been easier!
With the proliferation of platforms, rocking a soaring stiletto has never been easier! In some cases, designers opt to conceal the platform with a covered midsole, such as with the Rue B modified loafer by Angel. Another option? Camouflaging the heel so that it blends seamlessly with the rest of the shoe upper, as shown with the tone-on-tone April pump by Dolce Vita. Read more »
