{ a blog all about the love of shoes }
Perhaps you’ve noticed that bloggers are working on paring down their closets and choosing thirty wardrobe pieces for work and going out—and that includes the shoes! Do you think you’d be game? It’s hard to imagine it if you have a huge wardrobe, but it’s really fun if you want to challenge yourself and prove you can live with a less chaotic closet. Let’s look at some of the essentials we saw in the remix challenges zipping around the web (as started by Kendi Everyday).
The point of this game is to take thirty pieces in your wardrobe and remix them into thirty different looks, also avoiding the urge to shop for thirty days. Could you do it? Here are some ways to get your shoes and separates to blend in the ultimate wardrobe mix-up.
Sometimes you have a little extra pin money to spend on whatever you’d like—and for all of the shoe lovers out there, that would be on expensive, beautiful footwear. Use these suggestions as a jumping-off point when making your choice.
Snakeskin
Snakeskin or faux snakeskin is an excellent pick when you’re feeling flush. It is daring, attractive, and looks expensive, which is what you need when you are pulling out a pair of heels that you scrimped and saved for. Are you a snakeskin lover? We want to hear from you, and that includes telling us why you choose it!
Custom Shoes and Boots
Custom footwear is a great choice when you want to show off your curves and contours. Many people believe that you don’t have to look for boots with flattering silhouettes, but items with a heavier ankle (like a work boot or a Western boot) won’t streamline like a custom, slim boot. Look for boots that allow you to order your calf size and foot width. Read more »
There’s something in the water for shoe designers, pricey and affordable, it seems. Shoes are getting rugged and tough for the most part. This should be good since tough details usually translates to wearable, comfortable boots that will get you through fall and winter looking stylish and keeping warm.
Studs
Studs are popping up on everything from wedge boots to combat boots. They add shine and glitz without being over-the-top or coming off as “too much” (unlike rhinestones or other shiny details). When wearing shoes with studs, use them as the focal point of your look or embellish the studs with additional shiny accents like studded bracelets or studs on a handbag. Don’t be afraid to juxtapose studs with classic pieces. This is key in keeping the look relevant and not looking like a Hot Topic reject. Read more »
Watching movies set in a bygone age is so fun, and would you know that you can buy plenty of shoes now that look like they were plucked out of another decade? Mona Lisa Smile is our inspiration this time around, so check out these ’50s looks below.
Stiletto-Heeled Pumps and Matching Umbrellas
Did you know that, at one time, all stilettos were steel-tipped? They caused a ton of damage to floors, but frugal divas appreciated their durability. Pair those heels with a steel-tipped umbrella, and you’re really channeling Mona Lisa Smile-style. For a look that works well for present day (and that is floor-safe), you can wear stilettos with protective tips and a fancy red umbrella. Read more »
Sure, you have a closet (cupboard, suitcase, fridge) filled with shoes, but there’s always that one pair – that one glorious ballet flat that goes with everything, that never fails to be comfortable and that… well, quite frankly… is starting to smell more than a little funky.
If your shoes are stinky, here’s an at-home tip that’ll banish the pong faster than you can say “kitty litter.”
Yes, that’s right. Kitty litter. You see, it turns out the stuff your feline friend relies on to keep her bathroom endlessly fresh can actually work wonders to eliminate odor AND banish dampness (for those times you were caught in a rainstorm or just for those super-sweaty days!) from your shoes. What’s a shoe queen in the eyes of MyShoes.com? It’s a woman who loves shoes and knows how to wear them. This means the woman wears the shoes, not the other way around. Of course, we want folks to ogle our shoes, but that doesn’t mean letting shoes outdo your personality. Here’s a look at our favorite shoe queens who always manage to wear fabulous shoes, but still be the center of attention.
Sarah Jessica Parker – An obvious choice, but a valid one. SJP pretty much put shoe loving on the map for mainstream America. Prior to her, the average mid-Westerner had no clue who Manolo Blahnik was. While her beloved character, Carrie Bradshaw, was a total shoe nut, SJP gives Bradshaw a good run for her money. She wears staple designers like Louboutin, but also embraces newer designers like Camilla Skoovgard and Nicholas Kirkwood. Read more »
