Nude-y Girl: Best Nude-Hued Wedge Sandals of the Season

July 3, 2011 Comments (0)

As the season reaches its mid-point, nude-hued shoes continue to rule. Below are the best nude wedge heels at every price point:

$
If you’re saving your pennies for a tropical vacation and only have a few dollars to spend on the shoes meant to get you there, consider the seriously chic Maribel by Merona. This versatile pump belies its less than $20 price tag with geometric cutout designs, a flirty peep-toe and a stacked wedge heel that measures about 2 ½ inches. This sandal would be perfect paired with jeans for running around town or with a more casual suit for a day at the office.

Another great option if you want a little less coverage is the Egger by Gabrielle Rocha. This dainty summer sandal boasts an open toe complete with feminine bow detailing and two slender straps at the forefoot that finish in a sling-back with delicate metallic buckle detailing.

$$
For those with a little more money to spend, we love the Desmond by Vince Camuto. This grown up sandal boasts a soft suede upper accented with metal disk embellishments, a bold T-strap, and exposed side cutouts. This sandal is finished with a 3 ½-inch contoured cork wedge heel hidden beneath a layer of smooth suede.

Another great option is the classic Harlow by Franco Sarto, which features a patent leather upper, a peep-toe and a shapely 3-inch wooden heel.

$$$
If the status of your bank account is less of a concern, we recommend the high fashion Pali by Dolce Vita. This cutting-edge sandal boasts a series of bold straps that bisect the forefoot and leg before finishing just above the ankle. A rear, exposed zipper and a nearly 4-inch heel complete this daring look.

If you’re in the market for something a little more classic, check out the Annie by Elie Tahari, a classic nude, rounded toe shoe that holds a dark secret… a snake print 4-inch contoured heel.

$$$
And finally, if your budget knows no bounds, then why not step out in the Vail by Michael Kors. This adorable patent shoe boasts a peep toe, a contoured element at the forefoot, and contoured side panels. This stunning shoe is finished with a covered 3-inch wedge heel.

If, however, you’re in the market for a barely there style, check out the Clume by Kate Spade. This shoe, which also boasts a patent leather upper, features a slender strap at the toe and a matching strap at the forefoot that finishes in a wraparound ankle strap. The real show-stopper, however, is the wedge heel, which features a series of horizontal stripes in complimentary shades of coral, seafoam, and chocolate brown. Perfect!

Shoe Buy of the Season: Stuart Weitzman Blog Pumps

June 19, 2011 Comments (0)

Last month we spent some time discussing splurging versus spending when it comes to shoes. And if you’ve decided that now is your time to splurge, may we suggest the Stuart Weitzman Blog pumps. Coming in at around a cool $300, the versatile shoes are comfortable and will last in your work wardrobe for years to come.

Why We Love Them
The Stuart Weitzman Blog pumps are ideal for the working woman on the go. The pumps have a low 2 ½-inch heel and platform. This means even those who have zero experience walking in heels will be more than able to get around in these shoes with ease. If you’re tired of toting an extra pair of shoes with you to and from work (you know, in case your feet give out), the Blog pumps work from morning to night because they’re all about comfort.

Choosing a Color
The Blog pumps are available in an array of basic colors. Nude is ideal for spring and summer, and these shoes happen to be available in two nude shades. One is more of a peachy-pink while the other is a warm chestnut hue. If you have a medium or deep skin tone you may find the chestnut shade more suitable, while those with fair skin may opt for the peach. There’s also navy and black, plus a pair of patent gray for those who already have the basics in their wardrobe.

How to Wear Them
Sport the Blog pumps with any office duds you have. Sheath dresses, suits, and tailored jackets will all play nicely with these classic pumps. If you opt for a dark pair, you can wear opaque or printed tights with these shoes in the winter. The nude colors can work on the weekend or for casual events when worn with a blouse and trouser pants or a cardigan and straight-leg jeans. It’s a basic pump, only with a more wearable heel than most, so the sky’s the limit when it comes to styling these staple shoes.

Nothing But Nudes!

April 8, 2011 Comments (0)

I recently heard nude shoes referred to as, “the chino of the shoe world.” That was not meant to be a compliment. Why all the hate for nude shoes? Not only do they lengthen the leg, but they are the perfect go-to shoes for a tough-to-coordinate outfit. That said, nude shoes can seem challenging to the uninitiated. That’s why I’m focusing the spotlight on the functional and fabulous nude shoe.

Subtly Stylish
Your nude shoes won’t stand out too much–letting your outfit shine! You can wear a plain pair that blends into your skin tone, which lets your dress, skirt, or amazing jacket sing. For an even sexier effect, you can buy nude shoes that wrap around once at the ankle and once at the toe, leaving the rest of the upper bare. Read more »

Nude Shoes for Transition Season

November 16, 2010 Comments (0)

If you live an area that has a lengthy transition between seasons, nude shoes are perfect. The pale color can be worn with dark or light shades and with the wide array of choices on the market, you can choose from flat leather, patent or suede. Nude shoes work at the office or even for a conservative wedding outfit. If you’re feeling casual, throw in your nude shoes with a pair of dark rinse boyfriend jeans and a mens-inspired button-up shirt for a chic look.

Think Pink

June 25, 2010 Comments (0)

Ah, the color pink. Most women either love or hate this hue. Girlie girls embrace it to no end and the other half claims it’s never sophisticated enough to make the cut in their wardrobes. Pink can border obnoxious if you don’t know how to wear it, but pink shoes are far easier to implement with style. Pink ranges from light shades with nude undertones to intense versions that look rich with black.

Neon colors are back for summer 2010, so why not ditch your basic sandals for a pair in neon pink? The Ontario sandals from Dolce Vita are a great go-to pair for those who want flat sandals that are easy to wear without looking as dowdy as flip-flops. Wear them with all white or light denim for a crisp look and also incorporate the trend of neutrals like beige, champagne and gray with neon. These are smart sandals for those who wear easy pieces like T-shirt dresses and tank tops and jeans often because they add a trendy spin with minimal effort.

For trendy pumps in pink, look to the Ultamit heels from Steve Madden. These basic pumps are a great addition to your wardrobe because they’re suede and a wearable, muted shade of magenta. This adds a pop of color without making you leave your comfort zone. Wear them with any little black dress, but don’t forget they work with a print top and trouser pants. When wearing pink shoes, you want to either highlight the fact that you’re going girlie or completely juxtapose it with unexpected pieces like a relaxed blazer or wide leg jeans.

The Nude Shoe Effect for Darker Skin Tones

April 21, 2010 Comments (0)

Nude shoes. Every woman needs them, but not every woman’s skin tone is the same shade of “nude.” Sure designers are happy to offer up tons of choices of beige with heavy pink undertones, but this doesn’t suit women with darker skin tones. What to do to get that same nude shoe effect? Improvise, of course!

The purpose of wearing nude shoes (whatever your shade of “nude” may be) is to create a long, lean line that mimics long legs. Nude shoes elongate and make it look as if your legs go on for miles, even if you hover at 5’2 in heels. Nudes shoes are great for day and are also a go-to style for night when wearing an outlandish dress that doesn’t need dramatic footwear.

Women with darker skin tones should look for dark bronze and copper shoes. The less sheen the better, but a metallic finish can work, depending on the look you’re going for and the occasion. Read more »
