Gladiator Style

September 19, 2011 Comments (0)

Fall may have come out swingin’ in most of the Lower 48, but there are a few warm spots in the country that will still allow you to step out in a pair of spectacular sandals. Gladiators are the style soldier’s chosen shoe, and we’re bringing you a few pairs with enough sugar and spice to fashionably carry you through this fall’s obsession with edge and attitude.

Warrior Princess Footwear
Fight for your love of fashion in the Xena. Available in bronze and white, these Apple Bottoms gladiators with a 1-inch wedge, zipper back, thick detailed straps, edgy studs and grommets, and braided detail guarantee a bold look. Embellishments and two tones of leather pack a chic fist full of attitude. Pair the Xena with your favorite dress or body conscious skirt to be the trendiest style soldier.

Sneakers Meet Gladiator Sandals
Some of us will always favor sneakers for school days. Why shouldn’t we? Sneakers come in an assortment of bold colors that make it easy to style your school day looks from the bottom up. For sneakers with an extreme twist, grab the Hena  by Punkrose. Making gladiator sandals and sneakers one in the same, the Hena boasts an open toe, classic sneaker laces, a caged style, and a lightning bolt detail at the heel for extra attitude.

Armed With a Shoe of Teal
With all the neutrals, rusty reds, and hot coco themed color palettes floating around this fall’s fashions, we don’t want to lose ourselves in a sea of dull shoes. Look dangerously fashionable in a colorful pair of gladiators like Naughty Monkey’s Beam Me Up sandals in teal. Leather straps and a diamond-shaped pattern of intertwined knots adorned by shimmering studs and grommets will have you dressed to kill.

Hand (Bag)-Eye Coordination

July 13, 2011 Comments (0)

Summertime gives us a reason to break out some of our favorite wedges and sandals as well as our favorite colorful clutches and handbags. Coordinating the two can sometimes be a bit tricky in the summer. You don’t want to create a look that’s too over-the-top, yet the matchy-matchy look is passé. Your purses and shoes no longer have to “match,” they simply have to work together. Here are some great ways to coordinate your shoes and bags to bring your look together when the heat is on.

Bright Wedges
When wearing bright wedges, reach for a straw bag or clutch. The size can depend on what you’re doing that day. If you’re lounging by the pool, take a straw tote that can accommodate sunscreen, your e-reader, and a towel. If you’re hobnobbing around town with friends, opt for a straw drawstring bag with a cross-body strap or a straw day clutch. Embellishments like fun fruit details (which are very trendy at the moment) or metallic hardware add pizzaz, but your wedges will work with a plain straw bag too.

Fun Flats
If you’re opting for a pair of closed-toe shoes for summer, there’s a good chance you’re going with fun flats. If your flats are a bright color, you can reach for a canvas bag with stripes in a coordinating shade. For red flats, go for a blue/white or yellow/white striped bag. For blue flats, reach for a bag that boasts orange; and for yellow flats, opt for a grass-green canvas tote. For a pair of print flats, go for a solid bag that picks up the colors in the flats.

Gladiator Sandals
Gladiator sandals can work with various bags. It all depends on the color of your shoes. If your gladiator sandals are brown or tan, go for a straw bag. A pair of black gladiator sandals works with a bright bag, but the key with gladiator sandals is to keep your bag in tune with the rest of your look. If you’re wearing a dress and gladiators with jazzy accessories, go for a structured tote to keep a refined look. For a more casual outfit, like a loose tank top and distressed skinny jeans, go for a woven bag in a solid neutral tone or with a colorful print.

Festival Shoes for 2011

February 17, 2011 Comments (0)

Are you planning on packing up your car next summer and hitting a festival or two? It’s amazing how fast tickets are selling this year for big acts and huge summer events, and we hope you get to go to one that you wanted to attend.

Fringe

A little fringe around the ankle never hurt anyone, and it’s quite nice to have something rustic when you’re camping out or simply dealing with the masses. Wear suede fringed booties with a short skirt or shorts, and pick a simple, breathable top with layering options for night. Brown fringe hides dirt better than black.

Sure-Footed Sandals

Try walking through muck in sandals, and then get back to us! If you’re going to wear sandals, then it’s imperative that you choose a pair with an ankle and over-the-foot strap. You can lose a sandal easily in the melee or while dancing, and do we really need to act like your mother and lecture you on the hazards of broken glass? Read more »

It’s summer and the heat is reaching all-time highs across the United States. This means you’re reaching for easy, chic options like V-neck T-shirts, tank tops, shorts and dresses for quick looks that are cute, but manageable during hot weather. Here are our favorite picks for shoes that will add a fashion-forward finish to your simple looks as you keep cool.

The Avery sandals from Frye are great sandals for a stay-at-home mom or a college student. The leather sandals have toe ring and eyelet detail at the leather strap across the top of the foot. They aren’t over-the-top, but they do have the pizzaz you need to add spice to basic summer outfits. The Avery sandals are available in black and camel, but it’s a red-toned brown version that will elevate your simple pieces for summer. Read more »
