How to Find the Best Shoes for Day to Night

February 24, 2010 Comments (0)

Are you a fan of dressing up and going out on the town? You might want to think hard before you dive into your closet and pull out the first pair of slim black heels. There’s nothing worse than thinking your shoes are comfortable, and then being very surprised that they’re not. Don’t let those flat black, almond-toed heels fool you: they aren’t all like walking on clouds.

The first way to ensure your comfortable night out has a lot of do with heel height. You’ll be surprised at how perfect shoes feel that are higher than you might expect for a work heel. Sometimes, heels of 1″ can feel awkward– you might want to upgrade to a 2″ to 3″ high heel. A rubber-tipped heel and a cushioned footbed add up to that comfy shoe feeling you only usually get with the practical stuff.

Pay attention to your uppers. Are they synthetic or natural? This can make a huge difference in your comfort, especially in extreme temperatures. The sweatier your feet get, the more the chance is that you’ll suffer from a blister or another type of foot irritation. Keep chafing to a minimum with leather-lined, leather upper shoes (not patent) or a fabric-upper style. You’ll find that your feet breathe easier. You’ll also want to decrease the amount of waterproofing spray that you add to fabric shoes.

No matter what the size of your heel, it’s essential that you hunt down ones with a stockier, blockier shape. Do you remember when you were a kid, and you balanced on your mom’s heels for fun? Wobbling is no way to spend the night, especially if you’ll be dancing, drinking, and dating 12 hours from the start of your day. Re-heel your shoes often, and don’t let them get worn down.

Get dressy in new ways
. Don’t suffer– everyone has different tolerance levels when it comes to shoes, and that includes your day-to-day selections. Why not start shopping for other accessories and jewelry that complement your shoes, if you simply can’t find a dressier pair of high heels that flatter? It’s not the end of the world, especially if you browse through the massive selection of shoes in flat and kitten heeled options offered by online shops.

What are the most uncomfortable shoes you’ve ever worn?
