{ a blog all about the love of shoes }
This spring there are plenty of fashion-forward trends lurking on the horizon, and we’re here to share the top three!
Wedge Works
We thought we’d seen the last of wedges last season, but it turns out that we were sorely mistaken. Brands like Prada and Valentino are continuing with the wedge trend and offering some fabulous footwear in the process. (We are specifically loving these Stud Bow Wedge from Valentino.)
High and Mighty
Unfortunately, your ankles will not be getting a break from sky-high heels this spring. Expect to see stilettos, which never seem to go out of style, everywhere you look in the upcoming months. Some of the most fashionable ways to increase your height include the Laverne from Michael Antonio and the Tribute from YSL.
Rainbow Bright
Make sure that your shoes of choice make a big, colorful impact this season. Red hot red will be a smash spring color, as well as brilliant cobalt blue, lemony yellow, and green. Styles like the Zippy from Madeline, the Kaula from Michael Antonio, and the Petra from Jessica Simpson are right in-step with the season’s hottest color trends.

Stepping out of the ordinary and walking on the wild side is always fun when it comes to trying new footwear styles. Opt for fabulous styles like the ones that we found that merge a bounty of fabulous embellishments that will complement your printed apparel pieces and spice up your more traditional, solid color looks.
For Comfort
Stay comfortable and glamorous in flats that sparkle. Kenneth Cole’s Glass Slipper, in gray and black features a round toe and sequin detailing that sets them apart from everyday flats. Pair them with your favorite jeans and T-shirts to add something extra to your everyday look, or style them with cropped pants and a blazer for a sophisticated, chic look.
For a Day Out
Naughty Monkey’s Joshua Tree wedges are perfect for the warmer days of fall. These canvas wedges feature studs and grommets along the T-strap, platform, and 5-inch wedge heal. Available in black, orange and gray, the simple change in color creates a whole new look. The black plays with the biker look, orange with the bohemian vibe, while the gray has more a of beach-y appeal. These versatile shoes pair well with dresses, skirts, jeans, and tops bursting with vibrant prints.
For a Night Out
Embellished heals have made their debut on red carpets and are finding their place in our closests. For a truly sassy look, try out Boutique 9’s Daraye. The d’orsay design and peep-toe let your feet breathe in the fresh air. The bow above the tow lends itself to a girly, Betty Boop kind of cuteness, while the stud and grommet details that are spread over the whole shoe make it pop. For a more toned downed shoe that still stands out, try BCBG’s Abram pumps with a classic front and studding along the heal. Pair with metallic colors, little black dresses or your favorite body-conscious skirts.

There’s been a lot of camouflage action in shoe trends lately, and I’m not talking about the beige and green army pattern. The wedges on ankle booties have been in hiding, no longer to be seen, and covered with the fabric of the shoe. Incorporating the wedge into the whole shoe creates a mystique about them—and I love it! Here are some of my favorite ways to catch up on this trend, and find out which shoe reigns supreme.
Cute and Casual
Great for the office, errands, or just lounging around, the Beatnik shoe in dark brown by Restricted makes you feel like you got the beat! The smooth leather covers the whole shoe, including the 4-inch wedge heel, and the stitching makes this rugged ankle bootie look fabulous on anyone!
Soft and Sophisticated
If you want to try on a hidden wedge with a little more fun, try the Tessa shoe by 8020 in black. Disguised as a flat, this 4-inch wedge-heeled stunner comes with an added twist. The back of the ankle bootie is covered with knitted fabric, while the front is all leather. With a dazzling buckle on top, this sleek and elegant shoe might look like a flat, but it will indubitably elevate your style!
Spotlight on You
Jeffrey Campbell is, without a doubt, the master of the hidden wedge. Time and time again, his styles remain unique, funky, and totally outrageous in the best way possible! The Back Combo is no different. With the entire ankle bootie covered in an exotic tan suede, this 4.5-inch bootie hides the wedge but gives you something to notice on the back—an alluring row of black bows. This shoe is an amazing find, and on sale now, making it my #1 pick for this trend.

When an outfit and a shoe don’t complement one another, the whole get-up is destroyed. Women of all ages have struggled time and time again to pull off a sophisticated outfit with comfortable shoes to avoid aching feet, unflattering blisters, or the inability to walk alongside fast-paced friends. Luckily, designers have taken us ladies into consideration. No longer do you have to mismatch a perfectly adorable outfit with sneakers, overworked flats, or wildly unbecoming high heels. Here are some of my picks for cutest comfortable shoe.
Oxfords: Pay homage to your uniform-wearing private-school days by donning a pair of oxfords that exude a much appreciated modern twist. The Keats shoe by Miz Mooz perfectly blends everything we appreciated about oxfords – comfort, delicate stitching, and laces for adjustable support – and adds another plus, chic wearability. Available in rich mahogany-tinged brown leather, these shoes offer a platform sole and a 4-inch heel for added comfort. They’re perfect for any outfit and can easily transition from day to evening.
Wedges: Perfectly paired with maxi dresses, capri pants, cute shorts or cuffed jeans, wedges are the epitome of fashionable comfort. If you’re looking for a simple yet elegant shoe, try the Eye to Eye in light tan by Seychelles. Complete with a 4 1/2-inch stacked heel, platform sole, and delicate cut-out detailing, this must-have design is ideal for chic dinners with that special someone.
Espadrilles: When graduating from sandals, most women enrolled in the University of Espadrilles. Always playful, summery, and full of flair, this shoe category welcomes a star— the Tilly in cream by Boutique 9. Ideal for warm weather days in the city and long hours in the office, this fashion-forward flirty shoe boasts a platform sole and wedge heel for added comfort, as well as leather ruching for style and versatility.

For the remaining days of summer you’ll want a light yet professional shoe look for the office. For those days when sandals just won’t do, you can always look to a pair of gray office shoes. Gray shoes are an easy way to make bright or printed dresses a little more summer friendly, and there’s nothing like a pair of gray pumps to make your outfit look on point. Here are a few of our favorite gray shoes for the office this season.
The Classics
For a classic pair of pumps with an exotic twist, try the Haya pumps from Pour La Victoire. These gray pumps are on the lighter side with a rounded toe and an easy-going 3 1/2-inch heel. The shoes are embossed for a lizard skin finish, which adds texture to your look. Summer is all about the luxe factor, from silk dresses to opulent jewels and exotic (or faux exotic) skins. You want to keep the lines clean and modern, but feel free to experiment with texture and bold color. The Haya pumps allow you to do that with ease since they’re luxe enough to garner attention, but don’t steal the show.
Just a Peep
Reach for a peep toe with the Ramonna pumps from Jessica Simpson. These smart pumps have a subtle peep toe and angular detail at the vamp. The 3 ½-inch heel is easy to get around in whether you’re going from meeting to meeting or spending the day in the office. Try the Ramonna pumps with a shrunken suit or any wrap dress in summer’s favorite colors, like red or orange. The subdued shoe brings the color down a notch, making intense hues far more wearable. Bonus points for the Ramonna pumps—you can wear them at night with a blouse and skinny jeans.
Wonderful Wedges
If you want something a little less conventional, look to the Edie wedges from Pour La Victoire. These are more of a taupe gray than a true gray, but fit into the neutral color family of shoes that are trendy this season. The Edie wedges have a pointed toe and covered wedge heel that measures in at 3 ½-inches. Wear them with your wide-leg trousers or skinny slacks, and don’t be afraid to sport them with a brightly colored full skirt. The Edie wedges can easily transition to the weekend. Just add rolled-up boyfriend jeans.

When it comes to wedges for summer, most of us think of espadrilles and raffia-infused wedges with girlie elements. While this look is adorable, most of us have been there and done that. What kind of wedges are we craving for the remaining days of summer? How about wedges that make a style statement, while staying appropriate for hot weather months.
Urban Legends
We’re talking about wedges that have an urban spin. Wedges that will get you noticed in a crowd, but keep with the light feel of summer. Our pick to achieve this look is the Mercer wedge from Michael Antonio. We love Michael Antonio for the brand’s affordable, super trendy looks. After all, this trend may not be around this time next year, so why spend a bundle? The Mercer wedges are just under $80 and can be worn day or night.
Choosing a Color
Even if you’re the queen of all-black everything, you’ll want to go lighter when it comes to wedges this summer. Shades of gray, taupe and brown are the way to go. Check out the Night Cap style from Luichiny if you’re going for a truly funky look. These light tan peep-toe wedges can make a dark outfit more appropriate for the season, especially if you add a shot of color with an accessory or funky toenail polish.
How to Wear Them
Since wedges have a tendency to weigh you down on the bottom, remember to keep your clothes super light and feminine for balance. A frilly blouse or silk top is the way to go, especially in a pastel or bright color. Lace has been a major trend for summer, and a lacey cardigan over a tank top, or a blouse with lace sleeves will work well with dressy shorts and wedges. You can also try loose pants with a tapered leg.
