Goodbye Ice Packs, Hello Lasting Comfort!

August 25, 2011 Comments (0)

When an outfit and a shoe don’t complement one another, the whole get-up is destroyed. Women of all ages have struggled time and time again to pull off a sophisticated outfit with comfortable shoes to avoid aching feet, unflattering blisters, or the inability to walk alongside fast-paced friends. Luckily, designers have taken us ladies into consideration. No longer do you have to mismatch a perfectly adorable outfit with sneakers, overworked flats, or wildly unbecoming high heels. Here are some of my picks for cutest comfortable shoe.

Oxfords: Pay homage to your uniform-wearing private-school days by donning a pair of oxfords that exude a much appreciated modern twist. The Keats shoe by Miz Mooz perfectly blends everything we appreciated about oxfords – comfort, delicate stitching, and laces for adjustable support – and adds another plus, chic wearability. Available in rich mahogany-tinged brown leather, these shoes offer a platform sole and a 4-inch heel for added comfort. They’re perfect for any outfit and can easily transition from day to evening.

Wedges: Perfectly paired with maxi dresses, capri pants, cute shorts or cuffed jeans, wedges are the epitome of fashionable comfort. If you’re looking for a simple yet elegant shoe, try the Eye to Eye in light tan by Seychelles. Complete with a 4 1/2-inch stacked heel, platform sole, and delicate cut-out detailing, this must-have design is ideal for chic dinners with that special someone.

Espadrilles: When graduating from sandals, most women enrolled in the University of Espadrilles. Always playful, summery, and full of flair, this shoe category welcomes a star— the Tilly in cream by Boutique 9. Ideal for warm weather days in the city and long hours in the office, this fashion-forward flirty shoe boasts a platform sole and wedge heel for added comfort, as well as leather ruching for style and versatility.

What We Want: Wearable Ballet-Inspired Oxfords for Summer

July 31, 2011 Comments (0)

Maybe it’s the wannabe ballerina in us that won’t go away, but we’re bonkers for shoes with a ballet-inspired feel. While we can’t all trot around in pointe shoes, we can reach for shoes that have a feminine edge and add a balletic vibe to our casual outfits.

The Shoes
Case in point? The Drrew oxfords from Betsey Johnson. These darling oxfords are menswear-inspired shoes with a playful feminine twist. These shoes standout in a crowd and the camel color make them easy to wear with almost anything. The satin-like laces makes the shoes feel like an urban ballerina’s pick for wearing with skinny jeans and body skimming dresses.

The Aiden oxford from bp is another ballet-inspired option that’s just flat out fun. The shoe is available in either brown or white with powder-blue laces; or pink with white laces. Try them on with rolled up jeans and a comfy sweater on those chilly summer evenings by the beach. And the style will even see you through into the cool days of early autumn.

And last, but not least, if you feel like getting into a retro ballerina style, then you must check out the Mackster from Steve Madden. The two-tone pink and black shoe is gorgeous and unique. While everyone’s sporting ballet flats and tennis shoes around town during the day, you’ll more than stand out in this fun style. And don’t be surprised if more than one person asks you, “Where’d you get those shoes?”

Your Own Thirty-Day Wardrobe Challenge: The Shoes

March 4, 2011 Comments (0)

Perhaps you’ve noticed that bloggers are working on paring down their closets and choosing thirty wardrobe pieces for work and going out—and that includes the shoes! Do you think you’d be game? It’s hard to imagine it if you have a huge wardrobe, but it’s really fun if you want to challenge yourself and prove you can live with a less chaotic closet. Let’s look at some of the essentials we saw in the remix challenges zipping around the web (as started by Kendi Everyday).

The point of this game is to take thirty pieces in your wardrobe and remix them into thirty different looks, also avoiding the urge to shop for thirty days. Could you do it? Here are some ways to get your shoes and separates to blend in the ultimate wardrobe mix-up.

What to Wear with Those Tricky Spring Menswear Flats

February 15, 2011 Comments (0)

Any heel addict will tell you that flat, menswear-inspired shoes are next to impossible to rock, and we’re not going to argue that when you’re used to shoes that put you up, going down is a sudden, scary change. Then, after you get used to them, there’s the challenge of making them look good. These styling tips for your spring menswear leave your feet feeling jazzy and looking great!

Sparkly Menswear Flats
A lot of sparkles mean that you can take it easy with the rest of your outfit. Don’t sweat little details, because your shoes are doing the talking. We’ve seen sparkly menswear flats worn with adorable a-line dress (complete with cute pockets) as well as carrot pants, and the effect is sweet, ladylike, and daytime-appropriate. Don’t save the metallics just for night!

Look to avoid: Sparkles worn with more sparkles can be daunting.

Two-Tone Flats
Two-tone menswear-type flats often have an upper design similar to spectator or saddle shoes, which feature a darker and lighter color-on-color effect. Two-tone flats look nice next to neutrals like creams and greys, but they also look stunning with floral patterns in primary colors.

Look to avoid: Two-tone flats worn with heavily patterned tights can be dizzying. Read more »

Novemberish Shoes

November 4, 2010 Comments (0)

This November, this is what we’ll be buying! It’s your chance to shop for yourself before the holidays, so take our top suggestions to heart.

Select a pair of shoes with rubber accents. If you want to wear your shoes as much as possible, then weather-minded elements are absolutely essential. Colored rubber accents (in fun shapes if you’d like) can also be added to your plain black boots’ soles or to the bottom of your simple lace-ups. Let the accents on the bottom serve as a nice pick-me-up.

Don’t be afraid of menswear-inspired footwear. Don’t balk at boots! Oxfords and boots might have a slim toe and sole, and they’ll look much more feminine than you expect. Menswear-inspired footwear doesn’t have to be in plain colors, either, and instead can be bright in squash or earthy in dark green. Suede laces are a nice touch at this time of year.

Oxford Shoes for Back-to-School

August 9, 2010 Comments (1)

If you want the trendiest shoes for back-to-school, you want to go with oxford shoes. They’re popping up on all of the Hollywood starlets that know what to wear to of-the-moment like Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson. You can incorporate oxford shoes just as you would basic flats. They’re just as comfortable and add a menswear-inspired edge that will have everyone talking.

The Nova oxford shoes from David Tate are available in suede and leather, but it’s the dusty taupe suede pair that caught our attention. Colors like gray, taupe, and soft shades of pink and lilac are hot for fall 2010. Even with an all-black outfit, the taupe suede oxford shoes will add a fashion-forward spin. The versatile color allows you to wear the Nova oxfords with nearly anything in your wardrobe and the suede adds a dose of texture. If you love to play with fashion, mix in other textures with the suede shoes, such as a leather jacket or chunky knit cardigan. Read more »
