Heels While Pregnant: To Do, or Not to Do?

Heels and other footwear finery can be very tempting– yes, even when you’re pregnant! If you’re feeling good and you’ve got places to be, you’ve probably considered wearing high heels, from kitten-height ones to the skyscraper versions. Since those of us who have chosen pumps while pregnant have faced either commentary or criticism, we’ve been hunting out answers on why wearing high heels while pregnant can be problematic.

Just like those jeans you only kinda-sorta fit into at this point, the general consensus is that you should save your less comfortable high heels for special occasions, using flats as your go-to shoes while pregnant. Why? It turns out that ligaments in your lower back soften while you’re pregnant, which can result in possible stretching… and damage. Experts say that as you put stress on a weakened area, you’ll experience heightened back pain– and guess what? Those stretched-out heels may not even fit after you have your baby!
