Shoe Rules

October 4, 2011 Comments (0)

Just as in all other aspects of life, there are rules in the world of shoe buying. These tried and true shoe laws, from one shoe-obsessed shopper to another, will keep you looking fabulous and fashionable from season to season.

Compare and Contrast. If you find a pair of shoes that you love, but the price really isn’t quite right, then you owe it to yourself to conduct an online search. By looking at comparison sites, like myShoes.com of course, you’ll know for sure whether you’re getting a good deal.

Forget the Trends. If you really and truly are an admirer of the “it” shoe of the season, then by all means go out and get a pair. But if you don’t love it, why spend the money? There’s no point in letting peer pressure convince you that a pair of shoes are worth purchasing, especially if they don’t feel right or look right, or you’re just not that into them.

Stay on Budget. No matter how fabulous the shoes are, they’re not worth going into debt over. If you see a pair that’s out of your price range, then wait a month or two and save up the money to buy them. The shoes will still be there when you’re ready for them.

If You Love it, Buy it. Don’t be concerned with what anyone else thinks or says about the style of shoes that you want to buy. If you think that they’re fabulous, then that’s all that matters.

What other shoe rules to you adhere to?

Color Wars: The Perfect Striped Shoes For Summer

June 17, 2011 Comments (0)

When it comes to dressing for the summer, you could say I have somewhat of a uniform. For me, there’s nothing better–or easier–than throwing on and hurrying out the door in a simple single-shaded sundress. Admittedly, this look does have the potential to get a little boring, especially when my sundress uniform is repeatedly paired with my usual metallic flats or pumps and sandals in nude hues.

This season, however, choosing the perfect summer outfit has left me indecisive–in a good way! With new trends and color combinations, I’ve realized how pointless it is to pay for a pair of matching shoes for a single dress when you can get a pair of striped shoes, boasting at least two colors, which work perfectly with multiple outfits.

Flat Favorites
For dashing around town this summer, I’m OBSESSED with the Boardwalk Ballerina by Isabel Toledo for Payless. At a wallet-friendly $40, these shoes feature a primarily baby blue base accented with black and white striped piping and just a hint of yellow at the toe. Plus, the rubberized sole means these ballet flats will stay comfortable for the long haul!

Comfortable Summer Days
To add a hint of height to my summer look, I’m dying to step out in the seriously sexy Chus by Christian Louboutin. This sassy wedge boasts a mixed upper that includes a blue and white striped canvas, accented with your choice of Christian’s signature red toe cap or an equally summery yellow cap. This shoe is finished with a dainty sling back strap and a 4-inch raffia-look wedged heel, which gives you the perfect balance of comfort and height.

Office Pumps
For those long days in the office, there’s the Peddy by L.A.M.B. This modern twist on the classic Mary Jane takes the classic combination of light brown and cream on the upper and adds intersecting straps at the forefoot, complete with an adjustable buckle detail. This stunning style is finished with a vertigo-inducing stiletto of nearly 5 inches, but it also boasts a concealed platform midsole to make those commutes to the copier a little easier on your feet.

Dress Up Your Summer Nights
For more formal summer events, it doesn’t get much better than the Johanna by Rough Justice. This D’Orsay style pump brightens up your formal attire with alternating curved stripes in shades of purple and magenta. With the addition of a flirty peep toe and a 4-inch covered stiletto heel, your stunning outfit is complete.

If you’re not sure about the stripe trend, consider the Quite Rite by Luichiny, which features a solid upper in your choice of green, magenta, or light brown. This sandal discretely incorporates stripes on the multi-hued 4 1/2-inch stiletto heel and accompanying platform mid-sole, which gives you the ability to match it with one outfit without the overwhelming stripes. Perfect!

The Great Debate: Inexpensive Shoes vs. Pricey Shoes

May 19, 2011 Comments (0)

When it comes to a shoe collection, more is definitely more, and women of all ages are eager to round out their shoe closets with the perfect nude pumps, the perfect black strappy sandals, and the perfect ankle breakers that make a little black dress come to life. So when should a girl spend versus save? It all boils down to you.

When to Skimp
Sometimes it’s OK to save a little cash when you’re considering purchasing a pair of shoes that’s hot for the moment. Trends come and go, so it’s usually not worth it to invest a lot of money on a pair of shoes that you’ll only wear a few times. At the end of the season, the trend will have passed, and you’ll be stuck with a pair of pricey shoes that will have outlived their usefulness.

When to Spend
Expensive shoes cost so much because they are usually comprised of luxurious and quality fabrics that help them stand the test of time. But this doesn’t mean every pair of shoes out there with a whopping price tag is worth the money. It’s important to become an educated consumer when you’re limited to how many quality pairs of shoes you can buy in any given year or season. Look for shoes made of soft leather with a leather or wooden sole, and a roomy toe box (expensive shoes tend to fit like a dream, if you find the right pair). Closures or throats that sit flush against the skin without piercing it are also key items to look for.

Buying Smart
Even if you have a little extra dough to spend, you want to be smart about when and where you spend your money. If you find a pair of shoes that are high priced and you know you’ll wear them regularly, then go for it. To make sure that they fit well, try to give the shoes a good whirl around the shoe department floor. You can then sleep on the purchase and try to find the same shoes online for less. Even pricey shoes go on sale online. Between coupon codes found here at myShoes.com and seasonal sales hosted by department stores and boutiques, you’ll always be able to find what you need for less money.

Nothing But Nudes!

April 8, 2011 Comments (0)

I recently heard nude shoes referred to as, “the chino of the shoe world.” That was not meant to be a compliment. Why all the hate for nude shoes? Not only do they lengthen the leg, but they are the perfect go-to shoes for a tough-to-coordinate outfit. That said, nude shoes can seem challenging to the uninitiated. That’s why I’m focusing the spotlight on the functional and fabulous nude shoe.

Subtly Stylish
Your nude shoes won’t stand out too much–letting your outfit shine! You can wear a plain pair that blends into your skin tone, which lets your dress, skirt, or amazing jacket sing. For an even sexier effect, you can buy nude shoes that wrap around once at the ankle and once at the toe, leaving the rest of the upper bare. Read more »

Designers We Love: Ivanka Trump

March 31, 2011 Comments (1)

To commemorate the launch of Ivanka Trump’s debut shoe line, we figured we’d showcase just a few of our fave styles from this mogul mama-to-be!

Best Office Pump
When it comes to selecting a shoe for the office, it’s no surprise that the daughter of “The Donald” has it well and truly covered. The Gurdia is a sleek and sensible pump that boasts a smooth leather upper, an elongated pointed toe, and sexy cutout detailing at the side and heel. A soaring 3 1/2-inch stiletto heel ensures that you’ll be standing tall all day long.

Best Business Flat
If you have a job that has you darting here, there and everywhere, then you’ll need a fashionable flat that will go the distance. Enter the Magnoli, a soft, classic ballet flat featuring smooth leather, a rounded toe, ruched detailing at the side, and a lightly cushioned midsole. We think you’ll agree… making a coffee run has never looked more chic.

Best Party Pump
She might be all business in the boardroom, but Ivanka likes to cut loose and her shoe line shows just that. We suggest you take a walk on the wild side with the stunning Pinkette pump, which features a sexy leopard print pony hair upper, a rounded toe, and a soaring 4-inch heel.

Best After-Hours Flat
When you work a 9-5, the weekends are all about running – for errands, for shopping, for fun! Ivanka has you covered with the adorable Scapoli, a jelly-like flat that is available in a host of far from business-like hues (OK fine, they have black too!) These chic flats are embellished with gold buckle and leather detailing at the toe, making them look far more expensive than their $80 price tag would suggest.

Best Wild Card
With all her fame and fortune, Ivanka has walked a red carpet or two in her life and has shared a design that is sure to wow even the toughest fashion critic (we’re looking at you Joan Rivers!) The Bulbli is available in your choice of classic black, a rich navy, or a sexy red hue, and features a patent leather upper, a flirty peep toe, and exposed side panels. The real show-stopper, however, is the sexy ankle strap with buckle detail and covered 4-inch stiletto heel. Perfect-o!
