Shoes Pop With Contrast Colors

May 18, 2010 Comments (0)

This summer, the best way to add instant wow to your look is with the new multi-color, mixed up and matched up straps that designers are playing with now in layered pieces.  Confident color combinations take high heel platforms or flat sandals to the next level, and make them ultra modern.

Colors like primary red or blue pop when paired with black, white, and grey or green, all hitched together in one fantastic shoe.  A nude palette gets underlined by red, black, or white, or sometimes a cool pastel sets off the tones.

The effect is daring sophistication- it’s not zany, or punky, it’s right on the edge glamourRead more »

Zip Up

May 4, 2010 Comments (0)

Old-time hardware is the hottest way to look modern.  Zippers seem to be enjoying the prime of their life right now, functioning not just as an easy closure but showing off their decorative side too.  Suddenly, the teeth of zippers is a hot embellishment, and is edging all kinds of fantastic looking shoes.

Take the trend-defining Alexander Wang boot, with an open toe and lace-up front and a totally functionless zipper edging the equally functionless outer boot and fold-down cuff.  Form does not follow function here- it’s pure mechanical whimsy at work. Read more »

Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down

April 30, 2010 Comments (0)

Sometimes nautical, sometimes urbane, ghillie ties are tongueless shoes that lace up through loops instead of eyelets, making for a tied up pattern all along the top of the foot.  Based on traditional Scottish brogues, these roped, open styles have become distinctly hot for this summer, replacing kilt style with sexy summer style.

These are a great way to turn the boot shape into the summer sandal, with slices and cut outs and a functional, open front. You can tie your way into perfect style with these honeys.  Wedges dominate the genre but some make it flat or put it on a stacked heel. Read more »

Shooties Are the New Black

April 27, 2010 Comments (0)

In case you can’t figure it out from the mildly annoying terminology, shooties occupy the new found territory between shoes and boots.  Surely, there must be a more elegant term for what is truly a great new shape in the shoe world, but as of yet, no one seems to have coined it or dug it up.

In order to qualify for this category, shooties, as we must say, cover the whole length of the foot, reaching up towards the boot-turf ankle and never quite making it.  They circle just below it, which creates a pretty dramatic effect, especially with the stiletto heels that prop most of them up. Best Summer Sandal Styles

April 26, 2010 Comments (0)

What to put on your feet for the sweet, summer heat…

1.   Caged sandals are red hot right now- the hard lines create a super modern shape and show off your foot with dramatic cut-outs, especially when set on a straight, high heel, but they’re also super sexy in completely flat styles.

2.  Wrapped ankles give an open sandal style a chic play of coverage for an edgy, sophisticated look in flat or heel form.  A structured ankle collar looks great with gleaming hardware, or a soft, slouchy ankle can be nonchalantly tied up. Read more »

The Cut

April 15, 2010 Comments (0)

The fashion shows for the fall season showed designers thinking with sharp edges- cutouts were definitely the look of footwear.  Slashed out boots and sandals featured lasercut leather and geometrically cut swathes of straps for a look that went from caged to basket-cut.

The best part is that you can get these looks now!  Some forward-looking designers have some fabulously cut choices for us already, like Pierre Hardy with his hard-lined, foot-framing masterpieces, and Azzedine Alaia with a repetitive circular pattern-cut high heel sandal that looks like something between lace and extreme mathematics.
