Nike Raises Funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research

November 14, 2011 Comments (1)

Remember those gray Nike athletic shoes that Michael J. Fox wore in the second “Back to the Future” film? The ones that for the last 20+ years have been known as the “greatest shoes never made.”  Well, 1,500 pairs of those limited-edition 2011 NIKE MAG shoes were auctioned off in September and Nike recently announced that the auction generated $4.7 million!

All of the funds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF), which is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

“The enthusiasm this project ignited, and the funds and awareness the shoes generated for Parkinson’s research, are both humbling and inspiring,” said Fox. “Our Foundation is truly grateful to Nike for this unique partnership that brought ‘Back to the Future’ fans, sneakerheads, and the PD community together in the quest to eradicate Parkinson’s from the space-time continuum.”

The shoes went for an average of about $3,600/pair…a small price to pay for finding a cure.

Steppin’ Out

November 10, 2011 Comments (0)

I’m going out for drinks with the girls this weekend, which got me thinking about not only what outfit I should wear, but what shoes would complete the look. So I decided to take a look around the myshoes site for some inspiration. Here are a few of my top choices for ladies’ night out shoes.

$$$
Valentino’s Bridal platforms are five inches of footwear madness! They feature a floral detail and a price that’s almost as sky-high as the stiletto heel: $795!

You’ll think twice about paying back your student loans when you feast your eyes on the Boston peep-toe pump from Sergio Rossi. For a cool $715 you can cover your feet in designer style.

$$
If you want a little more bang for your buck, then you must check out the Swagger platform from Topshop. For only $124 you can look chic, sophisticated, and still afford to eat dinner while you’re out.

To add a little sass to your look, the Arael style from Boutique 9 fits the scene just right. These lace-up leather booties have a 4.5-inch heel and fringe detail. Total damage: $120

$
Frilly and fabulous will be the first words that come to mind when you lay your eyes on the Glow pump from Unlisted. The reasonable 3.5-inch peep-toe heel is only overshadowed by the very reasonable price: $69.95

And since you can never have too many pairs of sling-back patent leather pumps in your wardrobe, Baby Phat is giving you the opportunity to stock up. The Cassidy style will only set you back $34.99, so you just might want to get them in every color they come in: black, pink, fuchsia, and white.

Walk it Out!

November 9, 2011 Comments (0)

I’d like to turn our collective attention for a minute away from fabulous pumps and platforms toward the functional, the beautiful, the comfortable…athletic shoes.

For the remainder of the holiday season you’ll be able to put your athletic kicks to good use at the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. The 5K event supports the 50 million Americans who are living with arthritis, and proceeds will be used to support arthritis research and education.

The run/walks will be held in more than 130 cities throughout the country during the months of November and December, so lace up your best pairs of Nikes and Reeboks and get out there for a good cause!

Wild Kingdom!

November 4, 2011 Comments (0)

Snake prints are everywhere this season, and as we see it, it’s the duty of the myShoes team to give you the inside scoop on all things exotic. So we’ve gathered up the best looks that the animal kingdom has to offer. It’s time to grab your snake-bite kit and be prepared to step out in the most sssstunning shoes on the market:

Flat Out Fabulous
The most comfortable way to rock the snake-skin look is in a pair of comfy flats, and the Vibrant style from TopShop is a great place to start. Not only are they sophisticated and a little bit dangerous, but the bow detail gives them a feminine edge. And for only $36 you’ve got no reason not to buy them.

But seeing as how woman can not live on ballet flats alone, there’s also the Nariko loafer/mocccasin style from Dolce Vita. The leather shoe features an embossed snake-skin print and offers an overall simple, subtle look.

High and Mighty
But if you consider “flat” to be a four-letter word, then perhaps you’d be more comfortable rocking the snake-skin trend in a pump/platform look. The Destiny style from Carlos by Carlos Santana is 4.5 inches of stiletto heaven. But the platform sole will keep your feet comfortable while looking fabulous.

And if you like a little color with your snake-like look, then check out the Sultry shoe from Topshop. The electric blue leather pump offers a sky-high 5-inch heel that will definitely get you noticed.

Boot Up
Chic boot styles are our last stop on the snake-skin train. If money is no object, then I offer you the Paige style from Alice + Olivia. It has a heel height of about 5 inches, a shocking red hue, and will look positively outstanding with a short LBD.

And for all of my budget fashionistas, there’s the Just Fun peep-toe bootie from Luichiny. They’re a steal at only $89.99 and feature just a hint of snake-skin detail at the top, on the heel and around the ankle. Sexy, chic, and fabulous.

Switcharoo Shoes

November 1, 2011 Comments (1)

I’m sitting here in my office at the end of the day wearing…wait for it…tennis shoes. Why? Because the highly cute 3-inch Tommy Hilfiger boots that I wore into the office this morning were beginning to wear on my nerves, and my lower back.

Luckily, I had my trusty gym bag here with me in preparation for my post-office workout, so half way through the day I made the switch. That inspired me to construct a blog about other shoes we all rely on when it’s time to go from chic to well, comfortable. Here are a few of my favorites:

Flat Out Fabulous
Is there anything better than a comfy pair of ballet flats that you can slip on while you take a quick jaunt out for lunch in the middle of the workday? Step away from basic black and try on a pair of deep purple Kingdom ballet flats from Steve Madden. The velvet creation features a rounded toe and is perfect for fall afternoons.

But if you like a little embellishment, then check out the Thelma flats from Miz Mooz. The star of the show is a tan leather pompom at the toe that’s sure to get attention.

Casual and Athletic
If you want to keep a pair of shoes in your desk drawer that are a little more funky and a little less Phys. Ed class, then check out the Skysail Slip Ons from Nike. This casual lace-up shoe is easy to slip on and off and will keep you looking cool and trendy.

But on those days when nothing short of pure athleticism will do, you must take a serious look at the Adidas Night Jogger Sleek W. Since it’s designed for running it’s extremely lightweight and the cool running stripes along the side will make you feel as though you can run from the conference room to the photo copier and back to your corner office in a single bound.
