Shoe New Year’s Resolutions

January 6, 2011 Comments (0)

Pushing yourself forward in the fashion realm is a great New Year’s resolution that will force you to take pride in your appearance and take a few extra minutes to elevate your style. It doesn’t have to consume you, but changing up your shoe habits can inject new life to your wardrobe and put some pep in your step, making it a fabulous New Year.

1. Go ultra bright.

Wearing a pair of neon shoes will make you stand out in a crowd. If you’re scared of major color, go for an electric blue or vibrant purple versus a neon pink pair of pumps. Wear the shoes with subdued colors for a look that’s right on the money and mimics the neutral and brights trend we saw on the runways for the SS 11 fashion season. Even over-the-top bright shoes can go to the office when worn with a simple sweater and smart skirt. Keep your hair and makeup polished to keep the tone of the look professional versus trendy fashion victim. Read more »

Shoes News: Nike Makes Sneakers Out of Old Magazine Print

January 5, 2011 Comments (0)

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Nike is branching out and offering up a line of limited edition sneakers fashioned out of recycled magazines!

The Nike Women’s Premium Print Pack includes three Nike Styles, the Nike Flash Macro Premium (available in sail and birch colors), Nike Blazer Mid Premium (in sail and khaki) and Nike Air Rift Premium (in sail and sport red). According to one source who’s had a gander at these shoes, there are actual panels of print (or more likely, ad copy) running up and down the sides of the shoes, giving the effect of a vintage filmstrips. Worried that these shoes will turn back to pulp if you’re caught up in the rain? Nike thought of that too, and have preserved the exposed print with a rugged transparent coating. Read more »

How to Shop Designer Shoes During Sale Season

January 1, 2011 Comments (1)

Designer shoes are something most women love, but few can afford to buy at the drop of a hat. There’s no reason to have all designer shoes when there are so many budget-friendly options that create the same look and are often, just as comfortable. Still, every gal needs a designer label (or three) in her closet for those dreary days when the only thing that will boost your confidence is knowing your strutting around town like Carrie Bradshaw and company. Here are tips for shopping designer shoes during sale season:

1. Be open.

Don’t go in with your heart set on a certain style of shoe. Try on shoes that are in your size and if a frantic sales person is kind enough to make a suggestion, take them up on the offer and try on a different size or a style of shoe you wouldn’t normally wear. Like clothing, some shoes look far different on your feet than squashed on a sales rack.

2. Be honest.

If you won’t wear the shoes save for weddings and bat mitzvahs, pass. While they may be on sale, a designer shoe will still cost you in the low three digits and that’s cash that’s better spent elsewhere than sitting in your closet. Be honest with yourself and look for shoes that you’ll wear in the near future and that you can see yourself wearing often. You don’t have to leave every shoe sale with a new pair. Read more »
