Black and White Bash

December 31, 2010 Comments (0)

Black and white is quite a sophisticated color scheme, but a lot of us these days equate black-and-white shoes with casual types like saddle shoes or spectator pumps. Here’s how to bring back the glam!

Swarovski Butterfly Heels

This high heel, with a floaty butterfly on the upper, is an example of the type of shoe we can wear when we want to try black and white formal heels. Butterfly appliques break up an expanse of black pump with crystals and sparkling beads, and they look lovely with beaded party dresses, for example. Your feet don’t have to be styled in plain black heels! Read more »

Shoes to Choose: Lanvin Ballet Flats

December 31, 2010 Comments (2)

Here at MyShoes.com, we’re huge fans of affordable shoes. The truth is, the fashion market has grown exponentially in the past 10 years and you can buy great design at an affordable price point. As long as the shoes fit and are used frequently, we consider that a great deal. This is why we’re hooked on Lanvin ballet flats. Lanvin is the French fashion house that has been around for almost a century. It went low key for a few decades and was revamped and put on the map once again after head designer Alber Elbaz took over. The ballet flats are the perfect pick for those who are looking to invest in a pair of pricey shoes to use on a daily basis.

The Lanvin ballet flats are released every season in various colors, prints and leathers. Whether you’re looking for a dose of metallic shine from a pair of silver flats or want to go art teacher chic with an abstract leopard print in bold colors, these are the flats to check out when you want a pair of high end shoes. While ballet flats from more affordable sources are cute, none come close to the whimsical feel of Lanvin flats. Read more »

Fun Boots for the Long Haul

December 30, 2010 Comments (0)

Are you the boot-wearing type, either from necessity or choice? These boots will keep you smiling after the holiday season has passed, when you’re white-knuckling it until spring.

Sports Boots

Sports boots have a clear athletic flair that’s great for bustling around after work or on the weekends. These boots can be found in obviously athletic designs, like a pair with thick Sorell soles and no-nonsense laces, or they can feature a wide band around the top instead. Sports boots look perfect in raspberry, gray, or a black-and-white combination.

Midcalf Boots

You wish that spring were here, but the reality is that winter just barely started. Midcalf boots are a good way to compromise with your spring wishes and the winter realities that surround you. Midcalf boots can be found in simple leather designs, microfiber, or rubber, all of which look wishing-for-springtime sleek. Read more »

Shoes News: Hotel Loans You Shoes (well… ok sneakers!)

December 30, 2010 Comments (0)

You know the drill: You’re packing for a vacation and after careful consideration you’ve whittled it down to five pairs of your very finest shoes, (even if you are only staying for three days – a gal needs choices!) but one of those choices certainly isn’t a big old pair of (sometimes) stinky sneakers!

Well, if you’re planning on staying in select Westin hotels, it turns out that won’t be a problem! You see, the fitness-minded folks at the upmarket hotel chain have launched a program under which they’ll loan you your very own pair of New Balance sneakers (and a workout outfit consisting of Capri pants, sports bra, shirt and socks) so you can get your workout in even if you are far from home. Ditch Your Heels for Jeweled Flats This Holiday Season

December 29, 2010 Comments (0)

While sky high heels are tempting during the holidays, it’s only a matter of time before the blisters and feet make you look for another option. With ballet flats being all the rage, embellished ballet flats with jewels are perfect for holiday parties and hanging out with family.

Jeweled Flats Go Casual

Jeweled flats are perfect for those who travel during the holiday season because they can go casual or dressy. When wearing jeweled flats in a casual manner, play with texture. Try a cableknit sweater with a tweed skirt and tights or add texture with your tights by opting for a heathered or argyle print.

There’s nothing wrong with jeans with jeweled flats either. Dark rinse jeans work best for the holidays, since they have a more upscale feel than pale blues or stonewashed denim. Work your basic sweaters or knit tops with a pair of jeans and jeweled flats. Pick up the jeweled detail on your flats with a statement necklace for a pulled-together look that will have you looking polished through this hectic time of year. Read more »

Lady on a Train: Traveling Shoes for Those Who Don’t Fly

December 29, 2010 Comments (0)

When it gets close to the holidays, it’s so fun to watch b&w movies like Lady on a Train with Deanna Durbin. And that kind of a movie can really get us thinking, too: if you’re avoiding the TSA drama and will be traveling by train or bus this winter, what shoes should you pack? Here’s our list of top footwear picks, as recommended by readers.

Walking Shoes or MBTs

Shoes designed for walking are great when you have a lot of transfers planned for one trip. I’ll never forget a transfer I had in Miami—I was wearing the cutest leather flats with a big bow on the toe, but they destroyed my feet. I never thought about on-foot transfers until that day, but I never forgot, either.

Styling Tip: Wear your walking shoes with yoga pants and a tunic to make them look more natural.

Low-Heeled Knee-High Boots

These boots look chic, but they also are comfortable enough to wear all day long. One of the best things about knee-high boots for traveling is that you can wear them with long compression socks that go up to your knee. Your heel shouldn’t measure over 2” for ultimate comfort, and it should be slightly blocky.

Styling Tip: Try your low-heeled boots with a skirt to dress them up. Packing separates is always smart for the season.

Bright Flats from Cole Haan or Aerosoles

When you don’t want to give away the fact that you dress for comfort, try a brightly-colored flat shoe from a brand you can trust, like Cole Haan or Aerosoles. These smart shoes won’t let you down in the wardrobe department, and they also won’t let you down when it comes to comfort.

Styling Tip: Grab a colorful tote or satchel to being out the brightness in your flats.

Ecco and Clarks with Smart Socks

Ecco and Clarks shoes are two highly recommended shoes to select for spending time on your feet and looking good—and those two picks are the result of a lot of research. If you want to get a shoe that looks less “strictly business,” then it’s recommended you look for a black-on-black shoe. Wear socks that stimulate circulation.

Styling Tip: Get your smart socks in black so they show less wear.

Soft Ankle Boots with a Roomy Fit

If you want to be able to segue from leggings to roomy denim, make sure your boots can accommodate the tucking in of any pants leg. Soft boots with folds around the ankle can accommodate cuffed pants and tucked-in thick denim much better than skinny black leather boots, and that means you’ll look chic and feel good on your trip.

Styling Tip: Wear your soft ankle boots with black jeans to avoid traveling grim.

And we’re always accepting suggestions, too!
