Shoe News: He “Madoff” With All Those Shoes?

November 22, 2010 Comments (0)

When the wares of shamed ponzi scheme extraordinaire, Bernie Madoff, were this week put on the auction block, would be purchasers and looky-loos alike weren’t talking about his rare Rolex, the slew of available antiques, or even the packages of unused underwear that was for sale.

Indeed, it turns out Mr. Madoff was something of an Imelda Markos! Included in the auction were approximately 250 paires of shoes, some of which were never worn.  Never one to scrimp-unless it comes to paying back his investors!- Madoff’s collection included beautifully fashioned loafers from Italy, France and England and even a pair of monogrammed velveteen loafers.

The Most Reliable Shoe Brands Out There

November 22, 2010 Comments (1)

Some shoes go the distance for real.  If you want your classic footwear to last longer, then these suggestions are what you’ll find brag-worthy.  “These old things? I’ve had them for years!”

Betsey Johnson

Betsey’s shoes might have a fun vibe, but they aren’t shoddy just because they are bright.  Quality uppers are paired with grippy heels, and many women who buy one pair of heels by Betsey end up buying another.  Betsey Johnson’s high heels are deceiving, that’s for sure!

Red She Said – Lipstick Red Makes a Comeback

November 19, 2010 Comments (0)

Red shoes are making a comeback for spring, but the universal color looks great nearly any time of year, so why not get an early start. There’s almost no quicker way to feel sexy than with a pair of red pumps, but the color is seeping onto flats, ankle boots and nearly every other silhouette you can think of.

For red shoes that say you’ve arrived, try the Windsor stilettos from Carlos Santana. These fabulous red shoes have massive bows at the side, making them fit to wear with tights or skinny jeans. Everyone will smile when they see these cute shoes that have an easy access zipper, so despite their design, are a breeze to get in and out of. The suede bows add texture to the leather and the fearless red is easy to wear with many colors.

Laces out Dan: How to do away with tying laces

November 18, 2010 Comments (0)

Whether you’re a colossal klutz or simply don’t have time to tie your shoes, the folks over at Instructables have figured out a way to do away with laces for good.

To get this shoe hack going, you’ll need the following:

  1. A pair of shoes designed to be laced.
  2. A lace substitute, be it an inner tube (which you could pick up from any bike shop – in fact, they’ll probably give you some busted ones for free!), a surgical tube (medical supply store) or thin bungee cords from an outdoors store. The key here is to find a stretchy, durable material that will allow you to slip your foot in and out without ever having to tie or untie!
  3. A pair of scissors.

November 18, 2010 Comments (0)

High Heels

High heels create an optical illusion that makes your feet look smaller in general. A tilt to the foot is more flattering than a flat, particularly when you usually wear leather shoes without much arch support. A d’orsay is great for highlighting a high arch and drawing attention away from the length of  your feet.
