Give the Gift of Shoes – How to Give Shoes for the Holidays

October 29, 2010 Comments (0)

Giving shoes as a gift can be a tricky idea in theory, but when you break it down, if it’s a pair you know the person will love, you’ll score big. Before the holiday whirlwind settles in, call the lucky gift recipient and work in a few basic questions to get an idea of what they may need out of a pair of shoes. It’s a lot easier than it sounds and giving a personal gift like shoes proves you know the person inside-and-out. Beware: they may expect more shoes from you in the future!

Access Their Lifestyle

There’s nothing wrong with asking a few questions, just don’t make it blatant that you’re buying shoes for them. You can talk about yourself being in the market for shoes and gain their input, just by working shoes into the conversation. During this, confirm their size. Most people wear American shoe sizes, but if you have a fashionista sister who works in Manolos and Choos, you may want to confirm her general size. Read more »

Disposable Shoes: Great Invention or Epic Fail?

October 29, 2010 Comments (0)

We’ve all been there. Partied just a little too hard and gotten the mother of all blisters. The simple solution? Kick off those heels and call it a night. The reality? You’ve got a 16 block walk ahead of you and nary a taxi cab in site to provide your feet with the break they need. So off you trot, putting your well pedicured paws on the mean streets. And by mean, we mean covered in garbage, grit and general grossness!

Enter Dr. Scholl’s, who this summer began delivering to pharmacies, grocery stores and other convenience retailers the Fast Flat, a cute, simple fold-up ballet flat shoe available in a host of sizes and hues, all for a wallet-friendly price of right around $10. Read more »

October 28, 2010 Comments (0)

Every now and then, a gal has to shake things up. This is true of beauty routines, our work wardrobe and most definitely our shoes. If you’re reaching for the same pair of shoes again and again, shake up your shoe staples with these alternatives that work just as seamlessly as your faithful stand-bys.

If you love tall boots, try…

A pair that are quilted. Quilting is a timeless touch on bags and shoes and more and more designers are coming out with knee-high boots that are quilted through the shaft. In black or chocolate, these boots add instant texture to any outfit and also boast an equestrian feel. Don’t worry if your closet isn’t full of polo playing-inspired garb. Classic boots like these will nicely contrast trendy items like a motorcycle vest or jeggings. Read more »

Think Pink: Pink Studio

October 28, 2010 Comments (0)

For our final installment for National Breast Cancer Month, we set aside the pink flats and pink party shoes of earlier, and instead focus on a designer with a distinct interest in pink. That is, Pink Studio.

While technically these shoes aren’t pink – well ok, a few might just be – there’s a lot to love about this flirty and feminine line! These shoes combine the best hot-off-the-runway influences, such as menswear-inspired elements, flirty cutouts, and rock-and-roll chic embellishments, but clock in at an average of less than $100, meaning that you can stock up without any buyers remorse!
