Shoe-Booties Continue to Reign

July 22, 2010 Comments (0)

Shoe-booties have been around for a few seasons and the trend is still going strong for fall and winter 2010. Shoe-booties are a great investment because they can work for the office or weekends and can be worn with everything from dresses to jeans or leggings. If you already have shoe-booties in black or brown, take a look at other textures, colors and details that can elevate your style.

A wedge heel on a pair of shoe-booties is comfortable for casual outings. The Shiloh ankle booties from Daniblack have a foldover cuff, making them perfect for leggings, tights or skinny jeans. Contrast stitching adds dimension to the shoes and the crepe wedge platform and heel adds an organic look. The light brown color contrasts the black suede, allowing you to wear them with black or brown. Stray from the cheesy fashion rule that black and brown can’t be worn together. It’s done all over Europe and creates a rich look that’s perfect for cold weather. Read more »

What to Wear to a Black-Tie Event

July 21, 2010 Comments (0)

Have you ever been to a black-tie event? If you’ve been invited somewhere fairly intimidating, like a black-tie ball or formal charity to-do, then you know that your footwear has to be just as nice or better than your dress. These tips should help you find a nice pair in a flash!

Wrap-Toe Sandals with Some Glitz: Simple sandals with a touch of glitz on the toe look great, and you can find them easily enough. Your shoes could be black, with a silver-studded embellishment at the toe, or dark navy with matching additions along the vamp. Choose something that balances a sleek upper with a decorative detail on the toe.

Decorative Slip-On Sandals: These sandals are nice with floaty dresses, leaving your feet free and comfortable. While you’ll need to be sure that you can walk comfortably in these shoes, they are a top choice for evenings out when you want to look glam. You can consider decorative elements like a metallic sole or a bow detail on the upper. Read more »

How to Care for Satin Shoes

July 19, 2010 Comments (0)

Satin shoes are often thought of as “wedding shoes,” but they are more than that! If you have a fancy pair or two for parties, here’s how to care for them. It’s time to take care of your satin shoes, because it can be difficult to find a pair you love.

Keep your dirty shoes out of the sunlight. If you leave your shoes in the sun or in any type of oven-like conditions, the stains will set. In other words, this is a huge “no.” If you want to keep your shoes cleaner longer, get to the stain as soon as you can. For example, if your shoes are messed up on Friday night, Saturday morning’s the time to clean them.

Use a toothbrush. A dry toothbrush used with the grain of a satin shoe is a smart way to clean off things like dry mud or dirt flecks. Simply brush lightly with a bone-dry brush to remove all you can before continuing. Be smart about how hard you brush, or you could damage the satin for good. Read more »

How to Wear Clogs for Fall

July 16, 2010 Comments (0)

We got a glimpse at clogs for summer, but the trend is set to take off for fall. Clogs are comfortable to wear and celebrities like Jessica Simpson wear them for casual outings when they want to feel at ease while looking put together. Here’s a rundown of how you can wear the trendiest shoes for fall.

Clogs work well for adding texture and an organic edge to your outfit. Many are made of suede, tweed or cableknit and often have a wood or faux wood platform and heel for a look that blends with your fall wardrobe. Experimenting with texture is always a great way to style yourself for fall. Pull out your staple sweaters in chunky knit, cashmere and cableknit and your skirts or pants in corduroy. Incorporating different textures in one look is ideal for fall because it gives the appearance of warm weather garb without having to layer pieces and add extra bulk to your frame.
