Some shoes simply don’t work well when it comes to matching. Too awkward, too simple, too ugly, too boring? They might be your favorite in the closet, but they are extremely difficult to fashionably pair with your favorite things. Take a look at our top picks.
Wooden Heel Shoes with Contrasting Laces: Your wooden-heeled shoes look so easy to wear, but then you realize that it’s hard to match them with anything! Wooden heels can be tied into your ensemble with “earthy” jewelry, and don’t forget that you can always change those laces for something a little more flattering.
Platforms with Straw Bows: Straw—it’s so natural and so tricky. If you are stuck on straw and you have a great pair to wear this summer, you can try pairing straw-embellished shoes with light-colored denim. For a little fun, you can pair those straw shoes with something like seersucker or gingham. Why not? It’s great in the summertime, and that means you don’t have to concentrate on matching too much at all. It’s just jeans + country top.
The big news in the wild world of shoes this weekend is that the very sassy Ms. Halle Berry has signed on to star in Shoe Addict’s Anonymous, a new feature film based on Beth Harbison’s best-selling novel of the same name.
The chick flick, which will be directed by the same folks that brought us Made of Honor (with the ultra-McDreamy Patrick Dempsey!) will follow the lives of four Chicago women who are united by their mutual adoration of shoes and the fact that all share the same size. Read more »
Colored shoes have become popular. Women have finally started to realize that a closet full of black and brown options simply doesn’t cut it. The modern woman is moving beyond red and now delves into areas that are purple, green and blue. There’s nothing wrong with colored shoes, but sometimes we forget how to wear them. Instead of letting them be the pop of color with an all-black look, opt for these fresh color combinations for a new twist.
Purple, Olive and Gray: All of these colors are popular for fall 2010, and it’s just a coincidence that they look fabulous when worn together. If you have purple shoes that pop like crazy in the summer, tone them down with subtle shades like olive and gray for fall.
Blue, Mustard and Gray: Again, all trendy hues for fall. These colors look brilliant together and create a playful palette that will work seamlessly for weekend outfits. For blue shoes, you don’t have to own anything specific in mustard. Try a basic gray T topped with a mustard scarf to create the look.
Think fringe is only fashionable for country western stars? Then think again!
This season – and well into fall – fringe is going to be cropping up on jackets, dresses and, of course, footwear.
For right now, you can incorporate the trend with a pair of thong sandals complete with fringe embellishments, such as the Navajo by O’Neill , which is available in a cool, rusted brown color. Another great option if you’re looking for something a little more formal is the ChaCha by Angel, which features simple horizontal straps at the vamp and a bold collar complete with fringe detail.
Tights are an excellent way to wear all your summer dresses into fall, but do you ever have problems pairing your tights with your shoes? This footwear always looks beautiful (and feels comfortable) with tights, so have a hunt now and get ready for fall early.
1. Mary Janes: Since Mary Janes fit so securely on your feet, you will fall in love with them + tights. Forget all that slipping and sliding that you might experience with regular tights and shoes: you won’t feel that with Mary Janes, thanks to the ankle strap. Try wearing tights with a little texture for an even better fit.
2. Lace-Up Suede Boots: Suede boots with a lace-up front are another excellent menswear-inspired item that won’t make you try hard in order to match favorite pieces. Suede boots that look great for fall include ones with neutral-colored uppers in addition to fold-top boots with similar laces. Shop away for the pair that flatters, and then cinch the laces for the perfect fit. Read more »
Once upon a time, combat boots were the shoe to have. Hard to believe, but they’ve made their way back into mainstream fashion for the fall and winter 2010 season. Along with tattered jeans, oversized T-shirts and plenty of plaid, combat boots have returned with the rest of the throwback ‘90s fashion that we’re obsessed with.
You don’t want to interpret the ‘90s look too literally. A good rule of thumb is to incorporate only one or two ‘90s trends at a time. After all, you don’t want to look like an extra from a Nirvana video. A body skimming T-shirt, skinny jeans and combat boots is good. An oversized T-shirt, ripped denim shorts and combat boots is bad (on most of us).
