Fall Platforms to Die For

June 30, 2010 Comments (0)

Studded Platforms: Silver-studded platforms are great when you are wearing jeans: they peek out and look especially good when paired with indigo denim. Your silver-studded shoes can also make for a great winter pairing when you wear metallic-threaded tweed or another sparkle filled fabric for cool weather.

Covered Platforms: Suede-covered platforms are beautiful for fall, and they allow for a much sleeker appearance than many other shoe styles. These shoes can feature a thicker heel, as opposed to skinny stilettos, which means that you can wear these more easily if you don’t like stilettos much. Get stepping!

Flat Out: Gold Flats For All Occasions

June 30, 2010 Comments (0)

This summer, I literally can’t step out of my gold shoes. Whether paired with shorts and a simple t-shirt or with a so-cute summer dress, these golden flats just seem to go with everything!

The following are a list of my favorite gold flats at a price point that will suit every fashionista!

$
If you’re looking for the quintessential ballet flat, then it doesn’t get more basic then the Queenie by SM New York, which features a simple ballet bow at the rounded toe and clocks in at an extremely budget friendly $15. Looking for something with a little more flair? Then consider the Gamba by Apple Bottom, which features a flirty peep toe topped with an oversized buckle with rhinestone detail, all for less than $20.

$$
For just a few bucks more, you can score the Bow by Wanted, which belies its $30 price tag by sporting an ultra-glitzy gold upper complete with ribbon weave detailing at the toe and foot opening. Another great, still budget-friendly option is the Babette by Dolce Vita, which boasts an upscale lizard print upper complete with contrasting trim and an open toe at just over $40. Read more »

Testing Out a New Shoe Style: How to Ease Into Higher Heels

June 29, 2010 Comments (4)

Maybe you don’t regularly wear heels, but have found the most perfect shoes of all time (in a challenging height). Will you be able to get used to higher heels? These tips can get you in skinnier, taller heels in no time. Buy away and fall in love with those lovely heels, but don’t expect to go trekking the first day!

1. Stand in your shoes. Your first step should just be standing in your shoes and getting used to how you feel tilted up higher than usual. This is also a good “test” when you’re not sure whether or not you can handle your high heels. If you cannot stand in them, then you probably don’t want to try walking in them quite yet.

2. Step around at home. Take a few steps back and forth to test how well you can walk in your heels. A firm surface is best, but if you aren’t sure whether or not you will return your shoes, you should walk on low-pile carpet, which is similar to office carpet. Nothing looped or shaggy, okay? And no hardwoods!

Thong Alternatives: Sandals with a Toe Ring

June 29, 2010 Comments (0)

Sure, everybody loves a good ol’ fashioned thong sandal, but when it comes to summer sandals, there’s one warm-weather style that is so often overlooked: The toe ring sandal.

While simple in premise – a strap that encompasses the big toe – this style takes on a number of different iterations. In some cases, a toe ring shoe can look like a flip flop with an extra side strap at the inner edge of the shoe, can include great expanses of skin and just a slither of a strap over the biggest little piggy, or include a series of straps, one of which happens to single out the big toe. Ankle Boots to Eye for Fall

June 28, 2010 Comments (0)

It’s still the lazy days of summer, but fall items are trickling in to stores already. Soon you’ll be tempted with suede, knits and corduroy to create looks that are full of texture for fall and winter. Ankle boots are a trend that’s still going strong for fall and winter 2010. Most of us already have a basic pair in black or chocolate, so make your fall shoe investment a more interesting pair of ankle boots that will add a fashion flair to simple outfits like a sweater and jeans.

Add some suede to your shoe wardrobe with these textured booties from Vaneli. The Janka ankle boots are comprised of suede and will add new life to your wardrobe of neutrals with this rich navy hue. Ruching moves across the top of the foot and a covered button sits at the side. Boots have an interior zipper for easy access and will look great with everything from dresses and tights to a cardigan and jeans. Black and blue is a hot color combination for fall and winter and was seen on the runways of Milan and Paris. This is a wearable, yet unexpected combo that will allow you to wear plenty of items in your closet in a new way.

Lace-up booties with a rugged sole add a utilitarian feel to any look. The Iness booties from Steve Madden work with black and brown. The lovely camel shade can even be worn towards the end of summer with floral print dresses or a blouson top and jeans. If you live in a climate when the weather gets brutally cold, the Iness are a good pick because they’ll keep feet warm and dry. You’ll be able to get around in ease thanks to the rubber sole with traction and the reasonable price point makes them affordable as far as winter boots go.

Great Shoes to Try If You’re Vegan

June 27, 2010 Comments (0)

Vegans might have it hard sometimes when it comes to dressing up and finding shoes they love, but these suggestions can make things a lot easier. Whether you strictly don’t wear leather or you’re trying it out this summer, these suggestions will take you far.

Canvas Uppers

Canvas is certainly one of the best materials to wear in the summer, if you are a vegan or otherwise. Canvas uppers can be patterned or plain, but one of the best things about them is their washability. If you’re a neatnik, these are the shoes to try! Be sure to look into Toms, which gives one pair of shoes to kids who need it when you buy a pair.
