Sometimes you just have to get rid of those shoes! If you have trouble deciding when that should be, have a look at these tips to draw the line between too worn and lovingly worn. I have a habit of re-heeling my shoes so many times that I’ve spent hundreds on the same pair, so I definitely know what I’m talking about…
*When your shoes cost less than $15! If you have to spend more on the cost of re-soling and re-heeling than the original price of the shoes, then you’ve got to consider whether or not those shoes you brought were secretly a great deal or are just a cheap pair that’ll keep falling apart. Be honest!
*When the upper is scratched beyond repair, and the shoes are just hanging around. Clear out your closet to make room for shoes that need to live in the place of honor. Don’t take no for an answer.
You spot a shoe, inquire with the salesperson for your size and find out it’s not in the store. Don’t be afraid to ask if this means the company didn’t order that size or if it’s just that particular store that didn’t get the shipment. Often, stores that pull in a smaller volume of sales won’t get a large selection of sizes in a certain item, so it’s worth asking if your size can be located at another store. If the store didn’t buy your size in that particular shoe and you’re still dying to see if the shoes will work for you, pull out a note pad. Jot down the brand, style name and style number of the shoe (which can be found on the box of any size). Often there’s a universal style number for shoes that’s used across the board. Read more »

Do you have “huge” problem with big calves? I stick to my boots pretty much all winter long, and that’s because I adore making my legs look sleek. Let’s see… if you’re getting nervous because you don’t want to deal with leaving your legs out to be examined or judged in summer, these are ways to dress up your lovely legs. I should know… I’m in Miami!
Single Strap Shoes: Shoes that cross over the vamp, without anything else fancy going on, are a fantastic way to complement your legs. While you should avoid anything with ankle straps, you don’t need to shy away from single-strap or cross-strap shoes that lie low on the feet. If you’re unsure of what strap thickness to try, go for something medium.
Monochrome Uppers: Don’t draw attention to your feet and ankles with a lot of bright colors. Look for a shoe that offers an all-over wash of nude or light brown, with a same-color sole and heel. It’s an easy look to find, and it’s slimming, especially if you choose a leather sandal style.
Thong Platform Sandals: Don’t think of those rubber flip flop kind of platforms, but the perfect shoes that are half espadrilles (in the soles), plus half thong flip flop (in the strap area). Toss on a pair of thong platform sandals, and don’t forget about wearing a sleek skirt to balance your shoes with slightly heavier soles. I always keep a bottle of leg tint from Sally Hanson to make my legs look fab, too. Read more »

Get back to “Ted’s” routes by rocking a menswear-inspired shoe, such as the Bolo, which features masculine leather and lace-up detailing accented with flirty and feminine patent leather trim. Another great option if you’re looking to hang with the guys is the Hasp, a road-ready near knee-height boot that features distressed leather and buckle and zipper detailing perfect for kicking around town.
