If you like essentials but you hate feeling dowdy, we’ve got the right solutions for you. Have a peek at some of these shoe choices that stay in line with the trends without becoming slaves to them.
Fun Sandals: Sandals with embellishments are a summer style that doesn’t fade. Just this weekend, I flipped through a 1940s Vogue and saw espadrille-style sandals and leather thongs with nautical and seaside-inspired touches. For an amazing sandal that doesn’t die, wear sandals with rope, shells, or beads on the vamps.
Strappy Evening Heels: Whether you’ll actually be going to a ball or you’ll be dressing up for a night out, strappy heels are fantastically elegant. Get them in satin if you are light on your feet, and if you aren’t? Glossy leather with a leather sole is a nice pick. Look for ones with a 3″, slightly stocky heel that won’t show the season you buy it. Read more »
Sometimes nautical, sometimes urbane, ghillie ties are tongueless shoes that lace up through loops instead of eyelets, making for a tied up pattern all along the top of the foot. Based on traditional Scottish brogues, these roped, open styles have become distinctly hot for this summer, replacing kilt style with sexy summer style.
These are a great way to turn the boot shape into the summer sandal, with slices and cut outs and a functional, open front. You can tie your way into perfect style with these honeys. Wedges dominate the genre but some make it flat or put it on a stacked heel. Read more »
Metallic colors are hot for spring and summer 2010. They’re the perfect way to inject some glamour, but keep with that easy going attitude of the season. Just because you look fabulous doesn’t mean you have to spend tons of time styling your look. Metallic shoes allow you to shimmer day or night, and instantly spruce up breezy outfits for that bohemian glamour.
Slide into style with these mule sandals. Oh Deer! Brings you the Vamp, a slip-on sandal with gold bands criss-crossing at the top of the foot. Ideal for a busy woman with casual days, these sandals add shine to any outfit and are worth swapping out your go-to rubber flip-flops for. These sandals are incredibly easy to wear. Just keep them by the door, and slip them on on your way out to add subtle glitz to your look. Best of all, these sandals aren’t just for day. During daylight hours sport them with a fun print blouse and capris, and trade your separates for a bold sundress when night falls. Read more »
We loved her in the newlyweds, we’re digging her on The Price of Beauty, and turns out, we love her as a shoe designer too!
Turns out, the Jessica Simpson Collection is as diverse as Miss. Simpson’s talents! In her collection, you’ll find a great selection of work-appropriate pumps, super-summery sandals, and fashion-forward boots. The one thing these shoes do have in common? They’re all ultra-affordable!
For right now, we’re loving the so-cute Scilla platform sandal, a tan leather sandal complete with central lace-up detailing. Another great pick for this in-between season? The rock-and-roll inspired Cesarini sandal, which features an almost cage-like leather upper complete with grommet detailing. Read more »
Are you a flats addict? I can’t get enough of flats, and I wear them as often as I can. Whether it’s to a dinner party, a barbecue, or a big night out, I try to push the limits and wear flats. Whether you’re a flats addict already or are just considering giving your feet a break, here are a few reasons why flats rock.
1. They can be dressed up even more than heels. When you wear a pair of spike heels, it’s easy to overwhelm the silhouette with too much embellishment and detail. Unlike high heels, flats look great with lots of chunky touches, as well as oversized bows… which on heels can give too much of a Barbie vibe. If you’re an accessories junkie, give flats another try.
2. They are great for the unexpected. Let’s say that a really cute guy asks you to the park for a lunch-date stroll, or you have to run a series of errands in the afternoon. With flats, you’ll be ready for rain storms, for hidden grates and cobblestones, and running for a cab. Not only that, but the time it takes to get what you need done will be whittled down significantly. Read more »
In case you can’t figure it out from the mildly annoying terminology, shooties occupy the new found territory between shoes and boots. Surely, there must be a more elegant term for what is truly a great new shape in the shoe world, but as of yet, no one seems to have coined it or dug it up.
In order to qualify for this category, shooties, as we must say, cover the whole length of the foot, reaching up towards the boot-turf ankle and never quite making it. They circle just below it, which creates a pretty dramatic effect, especially with the stiletto heels that prop most of them up. Read more »
