{ a blog all about the love of shoes }
Someone at Adidas is a genius. Thanks to them, we get the brilliant, jocular collection of Adidas Originals as interpreted by the rogue imp of fashion, Jeremy Scott. The classics get turned into wild riffs on sneaker culture itself, with flash and bling taken to the extreme, and even oversized wings attached to the sides of these high flyers.
Perfectly in tune with the craze for designer sneakers right now, these look-at-me styles are all about envy- gold and studs cover the high tops, stars cover high-laced wrestling shoes, one pair even sports a gilded Beverly Hills-emblazoned license plate on the tongue, like a flashy, nouveau riche sports car. Definitely not for the bashful.
We have to be grateful that someone like Jeremy Scott comes around to point out some of the funnier aspects of our culture to us, but the success of these shoes is also about the incredible moment of renewal that sneakers are enjoying right now. Feeling a little casual, a little rock, and a little street flash, the look is all over the place, a pronounced favorite among actors and musicians, and among the style hordes of fashion cities. Everything’s looking beautiful now that March is leaving like a lamb, so we’re upgrading our shoe styles to reflect the warmer, sunnier, and happier times that await. Vintage skirts, slinky dresses, and cute tees are here again! Aren’t you happy? We love a good picnic, and we also love a pair of brand-new shoes that match with everything in our closet. Care to see what’s hot this spring in terms of color?
Neon Green: Do you dare? This is one of those colors that’s a “hot” and a “not” wrapped into one daring ‘n delicious package. Try wearing your bright green shoes with a touch of floral to bring out all the background greenery, or toss on a pair of strappy neon green shoes with denim for a more casual look.
Mauve-Ish Pinks: Pink shades with a little brown mixed in are nice selections for the woman who wants to make her feet look smaller than they actually are. Toss on a pair of pumps or sandals that can make your legs look longer than ever– colors like bubble gum and a heavy-on-the-pink mauve are also welcome. Read more »
High heels just get higher by the season. For spring, designers showed heels that rivaled sky scraper territory, along with lace-up details and bold platform soles. The problem with these shoes is they can border distasteful if not worn properly. It may take a little styling know-how, but with the right tools, you can wear this crazy trend in a tasteful way that will have everyone staring for the right reasons.
For Day
In the day, we’re used to wearing flats, wedges or any other shoe that’s common for sunlight hours. These days, it seems celebrities waltz to the market in high heels, so why can’t you? You may want to reserve this look for going out with friends for lunch, brunch or boutique shopping, as it’s probably not the right look for the grocery store (unless you’re being photographed by the paparazzi).
Heels can work for day, as long as they’re balanced by your clothing. Stick to casual fabrics even for the highest heels. Sky high platforms are meant to serve as a focal point of whatever outfit you wear them with, so don’t pile on pieces that will compete and make you look over-the-top for day. Try a cotton V-neck T-shirt that loosely skims your figure, and trendy pants like cropped cargos (yes, they’re back!) or skinny jeans with an ankle-length hem. The key is to meet the sultry heels with approachable clothing, which will bring down the ante of the shoes. Read more »
What’s not to love about the kitten heel? Sleek, sexy, and not-so-soaring, the kitten heel just works for everyone!
For cooler climes, we love to see the kitten heel in a chic boot style, such as in the dress Ella boot by RSVP, which ups the comfort ante even further by using a soft, so-comfy stretch fabric upper. If you want to take it to a new level, literally, with the stunning Kincade knee-height boot by Michael Kors, which also features ultra-trendy buckle details. Read more »
Denim is everywhere right now. Not only are jeans themselves front and center in fashion, the classic American fabric is the must-have style for shirts this spring and even for shoes, where designers are exploiting its youthful, utilitarian connotation in a new format. Denim, you might say, is the new black. It goes with everything (except itself, please!) and it goes everywhere.
This is the quintessential high/low fabric, so it’s no surprise that designers across the fashion spectrum are embracing denim. You can get your fix in denim-covered Ugg boots, which look surprisingly adorable (really!), or Yves Saint Laurent glamour sandals with a stacked heel long enough to kill somebody but still appealingly casual thanks to the playful denim upper. Classic espadrilles look especially ready for this summer in their jeans makeover, great for the beach or hanging out in the hot city.

For shoe addicts, we want our footwear to blend perfectly with the latest trends, but it’s not easy when our budgets are limiting. Don’t we all want to dress with a slight trendy vibe? Even if I’m flat-out broke, I want to look fashionable enough to hang out with the most stylish of dressers… but it’s tough.
If you’re perusing current trends, we’ve developed a list of what shoes look great with the hot seasonal styles. If you start shopping now, you can find the perfect price on all of these!
Trend: Hot Pants
Shorts are really short this spring, so get ready to show those legs. Avoid giving off a stripper vibe by wearing Lucite heels, stilettos, or wedges; you want to select subtle footwear that makes your legs look great. Aim for something more sophisticated, like buckled-up low heels, sandals with an espadrille flair, or something slip-on and low. Read more »
