Spring and summer are just around the corner and you may want to indulge your girlie side. What’s the best way to do this? With satin shoes, of course! Satin shoes add that perfect dose of glamour to any evening look and work for many functions on your warm weather calendar. Sport them to weddings, as well as a night out with the girls. Here are a few tips for making your satin shoes work for you.
Do’s
- Do choose a pop of color. Satin shoes come in nearly every hue. Favorites are shades of pink and red as they radiate the feminine charm you’re aiming for.
- Do go for girlish accents. Rosettes, bows and ribbons make satin shoes even more sexy. Don’t be afraid of a little drama.
- Do use Scotchguard. Spray from a few inches away and never saturate the fabric. This will create an invisible barrier between your shoes and the outside world.
- Do tend to stains immediately. In the event your satin shoes get dirty, tend to the shoes right away. Use a gentle soap and tepid water to gently rub away. Read more »
Sure, St. Patty’s day may have come and gone, but green shoes are here to stay this season!
As we wait for the weather to heat up, a good choice to go green is the Charlie pump by Cindy Says, which features an Ombre-look patent leather upper that starts with a rich, olive hue at the heel that transitions to the palest lime hue at the toe.
Another great option for this in-between weather? The so-cute Kelly green Florale flat by Steve Madden, which boasts a textured fabric upper and a cute ruffled floral detail at the peep-toe vamp. Read more »
Boots have seen a lot of transformation recently, getting open toes and heels, and getting more cut out and less boot-like all around (remember? we used to wear boots because it was cold.). Nothing looks as right now as a boot that is open to the elements, so it’s no surprise that the hottest look for summer is the boot that has become a sandal.
Maintaining the cool, slouchy or architecturally stiff but definitely enclosed ankle shaft is key here, giving the overall shoe a boot feeling, no matter what happens below, and so after that, shoes open up to become thong sandals in front, or slender takes on gladiator styles, but basically full-on open summer sandals that meet their winter cousin somewhere around the ankle. Do you have trouble keeping your feet comfortable when the weather gets warmer? I do. My feet start to get more blisters as the temperature outside rises, and it’s not fun. Since some of my shoes are synthetic, I have even more trouble with my footwear, because they sometimes hold odor and moisture without completely drying/airing out in-between wears.
Need some steps for hot-weather footwear? Here’s what I do to increase my comfort.
Step 1: I make sure that I apply petroleum jelly to my heels. When synthetic-upper shoes heat up, they can cause friction burns and blisters in a flash. The sweatier your feet are, the worse your feet feel as the day progresses. Stave off pain by making sure your feet are lubricated on common friction points before you leave.
Step 2: I try to add a dust of unscented powder in shoes that can be washed and dried, or at least wiped out. You may see suggestions to add talcum powder in every pair of shoes you own, but this can be a problem in pairs that cannot be thoroughly washed after wearing. Only add a little powder to shoes that can be washed out properly after. Read more »
Headed out of town for spring break or a summer vacation? Take these shoes along for the ride and make it easy on yourself when it comes to styling on a whim while on the road. Take this handy guide along when you pack and you’ll be prepped for every travel occasion.
On a Cruise
Rubber flip-flops are a must for quick runs outside of your cabin on the ship. Wedges are great for day and night, and leather thong sandals in a metallic hue work well for adding glitz to your day outfits and can easily be worn with more dressier looks at night. Wear metallic sandals with a caftan over your swimsuit while lounging poolside, and don the same look with skinny jeans for a casual night at dinner. Read more »
What a tangled web designers are poised to weave this season and beyond, with uppers sliced and slashed and weaved together to create intricate woven designs.
The most obvious place for the woven pattern to be showcased is on this summer’s sandals. We love the interlocking straps at the instep on the otherwise open Twist sandal by Enzo Angiolini. Another fun option? The Willa gladiator boot/sandal by Report, which features a woven upper so fine they’ll be a firm favorite whatever the weather!
However, the woven trend has also shown up in less-summery shoe choices, such as in the fashion-forward Yves pump by Bronx, which is available in a classic black or a disco-worthy bronze hue. Another fun and funky option? The stunning Taffy wedge by 7 for All Mankind. Read more »
