How to choose shoes for your wedding

February 28, 2010 Comments (0)

Spring and summer are just around the corner and that means weddings galore. While you may have found the perfect dress, finding the perfect pair of shoes can be a lot more tricky. Of course you want to look fabulous from head-to-toe, but your wedding day is usually a long one, so comfort is also high on the list when choosing wedding shoes.

First, consider comfort when shopping for wedding shoes. A platform does not have to be over-the-top in order to make a difference. You don’t want an ultra sexy silhouette since a wedding is a family affair, but a small platform in the area of ½ – 1 ½ inches will give you a lift and put less strain on your feet.

A covered platform, where the upper portion of the shoe completely extends to the sole, creates a seamless look for a wedding shoe. This looks great in satin, crepe or embellished fabrics. The heel should depend on how comfortable you are wearing heels. If heels are a daily thing for you, you will probably be fine with a 4 inch heel for a few hours. If heels are new to you, keep the height around 2 or 3 inches. A very low kitten heel is also a great option, as it will offer just a bit of height, which will improve your posture, but won’t be difficult to walk in. Read more »

Wear Shoes Like Dancers Do

February 28, 2010 Comments (0)

Are you the kind of person who craves more spring in her step, a little bounce, if you will? I am! While not all of us have been graced with the moves, we all can get better balanced and feel more comfortable when we’re out if we choose a pair of heels that people wear when they perform professionally– on Broadway, in hometown theaters, and in street-side extravaganzas.

The ballet slipper is one choice that never goes out of style, and you can incorporate it into your routine seamlessly. Black slippers make great substitutes for driving mocs: you can also pop them on under your desk, and they also work for any other commuting you do. Save those feet by stealing yourself some time wearing the most comfortable shoes you can find. Leather uppers will provide more support than satin ones.

Ankle-strapped heels aren’t just a classic choice, but a supportive one as well. Have you ever been wearing a pair of sling-backed heels and had them trying to detach from your foot at all times? It’s the most annoying thing that could happen to you, and it’s a blister producer as well. Choose anything from ’20s-style ankle-strapped heels to refined beaded t-straps; your feet will appreciate the cradling. This is an especially smart style if your feet are very sensitive, and they scar easily from friction points. Read more »

Lace Up: Lace Makes Transition from Underwear to Footwear

February 27, 2010 Comments (0)

Usually when you think of lace, you think about taking a cruise around good ol’ Victoria Secrets to pick up the odd bra or negligee. However, this season lace has been cropping up all over the catwalks, even winding up on shoes of all places!

Some designers have opted to use the delicate material as the actual upper, Orthopedic surgeon turned shoewear designer Taryn Rose, for example, uses lashings of lace in the stunning yet oh-so-comfortable Kia, which is available in a cool, smoky wedge or a very wedding-appropriate ivory hue. Another, slightly more vampy option? The Bliss-30-2 by Pleaser, which features a sheer lace  overlay over a shiny gold fabric upper. Read more »

Your Best Shoes for Date Night: By Shoe Horoscope Analysis

February 27, 2010 Comments (0)

Are you dolling up for a date? Whenever you get ready for an event like a double date, an anniversary meal, or a special occasion, you always try to find heels that are occasion-appropriate… and for dates, that usually means sling-backs and stilettos. Have you ever wondered what sexy heels best complement your zodiac sign?

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 19)
Creative and passionate people like the Aries sign need to have shoes that suit their impatient nature. Wear shoes that are easy-going enough to work with your spontaneous urges to dress up, go out, and then do something crazy! You like “underdog” designers as well, so choose a smaller label.

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 20)
You might be all about… yourself sometimes, but you can show your deeply loving side at the drop of a hat. To appease your interest in the finer things in life, look for date heels constructed from satin, preferably with an all-leather lining and sole.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
You are especially flexible when it comes to dating, so let your shoes be that way as well. Hunt down shoes that have an extremely flexible midsole for the most comfort possible, and don’t stop there! Get ones with a silky interior as well. Read more »

New York Runway Review- Furry Footwear

February 26, 2010 Comments (0)

Coats are not the only fur objects designers are offering us for fall, soon we’ll have a slew of fuzzy options for our feet that go way beyond the practicality of sheepskin boots.  At Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren, the look was classic fur boots, working glamorously off of the practical idea.

J. Mendel showed some pretty gorgeous Louboutin boots topped with fur legwarmers- cozy and sexy!  But at Halston and Reed Krakoff, a different idea took off of using fur strictly as a touch of embellishment on open sandals, for a look clearly says “indoor winter”.

Even more extreme were the sandals at Zac Posen.  Hidden under a curtain of long fur, these shoes became fluffy paws on the end of models legs, or Lhasa apsos prancing down the runway.  And at Phillip Lim, the designer wore his own most recent menswear collection- a pair of sneakers with fur flapping from the sides. Too Graphic: Bold Prints, Patterns Rule for Spring

February 26, 2010 Comments (0)

Sure, you might still be stuck in your blah winter boots, but isn’t it time you started thinking about the warmer weather ahead? Luckily for you, shoe designers have taken the lead and are showcasing spring shoes in all kinds of fanciful prints and patterns.

For flats, we love the idea of flirting with flannel, but this time in a seriously summer palette. We love the Abbey Lane flat by Volatile, which boasts a plaid-inspired pattern combining fushia, purples and blues with just a hint of canary yellow! Looking for something that simply screams summer? We love the gladiator-inspired Kasidy by Steve Madden, which boasts bold, multi-hued leather strands throughout.

Looking for something with a little more height? Topping our wish list is the ultra-feminine Catherine 2 by Anne Klein, which updates the classic pump with a beautiful floral print. Another great option? The fun and flirty Delightful by Guess, which blends a tropical print canvas upper with a warm weather-worthy cork stiletto heel. Read more »
